yes. especially if they are potted, but bare roots can be planted now too.

If I got them should I leave in pots until spring or plant out straight away

either was Ric. If you leave them in the pots, make sure you protect the roots from frost by swathing the pots in frost fleece or bubble wrap or similar. I have go some potted trees to plant out this year and am going to do it mid to late september.
