Does anyone still have a piggy bank in the house for small change? Will the banks still accept them if they are counted and bagged up?

We still have one and a jar. When quite full our bank will accept them just as long as you have them in the right bags. I think a lot of the time the banks are trying to stop us going in and getting the staff to help them do this. Don't they realise they are putting themselves out of a job. We have already had 2 banks in our town that have shut this year.
I went buy a bag of 50p's from my bank. No chance, unless someone has just paid one in.

Banks don't store real money any more.
My local branch of Morrison's has a coin-counting machine. You just pour the coins into a tray and it automatically separates and counts them. You then get a receipt for the total less a fee of about 7% which you can offset against your shopping bill or exchange for cash.
I keep my loose change in a wee purse in the car. I haven't used money for months now except maybe at the car wash.
Funny how times change. I usually proffer notes for my local shopping, except for the correct change every week in my village shop when buying the Sunday newspapers, so I end up with a lot of change in my purse.

Consequently the change is put into a gallon bottle and every so often I transfer it into money bags which I used to change into notes at the post office.

These days the money goes to my favourite local charity which is for the air ambulance. I still find it hard to believe that most air ambulances are funded solely by public donation, so I will gladly give to them in the sincere hope I will never need their assistance.
I've got a full set of NatWest piggy boxes, all empty :-) anyone remember them
Yes. I do.
We have a terramundi that we only put 1 and 2 pound coins in
I remember them, Margo, they used to advertise them with a jingle from opera - Pigaro here, Pigaro there... Must go back to the 1970s or so.
I use coin-counting machines at local supermarkets - they go by the name of self-service checkouts. No fee deducted! ;-)
I don't remember the pigaro advert but we collected them for our son and he's 40 now!!
I have loads of jars full of money. I actually have to find a new jar now.
I’ve got one shaped like one of those VW camper vans, I save up my 20s and 50s init
I still have a few Doubloon's knocking about in a jar somewhere, but I don't think they're worth much.
Choux, I have been playing the Air Ambulance lottery every week for many years. I have won but donated the winnings back to the air ambulance. £1 a week https://theairambulanceservice.org.uk/your-local-air-ambulance/lottery/
We got burgled and they stole my laptop, wasn't worth much, password protected and about 5 years old. What they didn't notice was a jar of £1 and £2 coins in a jar which contained a few hundred quid.

In hindsight it was quite funny. The cheeky so and so's had a look in our bedroom using the torches on their phones. My OH jumped out of bed and chased them.....a naked ginger man :-)
Ummm, that is the scariest thing I've read all day, and I don't mean the burgulars.
I save my coins and the odd fiver in a coffee jar, and about every month put the contents into my Post Office savings account.
Yes, I keep pound coins in a piggy bank and use them for taxi fares and paying the window cleaner mainly. I used to save 5p's in a large bottle and my bank would accept them from me when I had collected a lot, but my bank closed about a year ago now, so I can't do that any more.
Yes the banks will accept them. Any business that accepts cash and doesn’t have a special courier collection has to pay cash in at the bank. The bank will provide you with the little plastic envelopes you need.
