Possibly the same.

The background reveals that the soldier was not as callous as he might be made to appear.

They went out, drunk, and spent a load of money which they don't remember - he did not soberly nick his friend's card and have a party on his own with it.

Hopefully the army will have a word to the effect that - he is a professional soldier, it would be a good idea if he grew up and acted like one.

What a despicable thing to do to a fellow soldier/friend.
Andy....you don't drink do you?

He might not remember going home but I guarantee he knew what he was doing when he got in the taxi!

But 'I don't remember' is a great defence!
ummmm - //Andy....you don't drink do you?

No I don't - so I cannot speak from any position of authority on whether or not any of the gentlemen remembered their night out - but as a defence, it seems to fly OK.

My view is - even if they all knew what they were doing spending four figures of one guy's money - they may have been at that 'Drunk enough to know what we are doing, but too drunk to care ...' dangerous time.

I don't know - I am basing my view on what I think about what I have read here.
That is just the 'civilian' penalty. He will be disciplined by the Army as well.
They will repay the cash he stole but get it back by stopping his wages.
He can expect to be 'confined to barracks' for a few weeks or months.
they all remember andy, it's the standard BS response, maybe some of the details go missing but what broadly happened, they remember. Never believe all that amnesia pony.
TTT - //they all remember andy, it's the standard BS response, maybe some of the details go missing but what broadly happened, they remember. Never believe all that amnesia pony. //

Thanks - I'll bear that in mind.
TTT is not quite correct. People can easily lose memory of the entire night. But...to make a decision to go to a cash point, remember the pin and go off on his jollies with someone else's money....he knew what he was doing at the point of decision making. He probably didn't know he was going too far after a certain point. No excuse though!

I hope the people with him who were also enjoying their jollies are expected to pay the money back
people just say they don't remember to offset embarrassment but I think they remember the main events well enough.
No...not everyone who has a complete black out of the previous night do something embarrassing. I know this for a fact :-)
how?

Thanks all, I would have assumed that this would have been solely dealt with my the military - so I was confused when it became a civil matter.
