I can't believe that they've cast Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon in the Da Vinci code. Tom Hanks is nothing like I pictured the character to be or look like. To me Robert Langdon is a big, serious, intelligent guy and Tom Hanks just doesn't fill those criterias with me. I think Liam Neeson would've done it really well.

Who do you think would be perfect for the role and why?

And how about Sophie? I thought Jennifer Grey from Dirty Dancing.

Anthony Lapagia, but if it had been made alot of years ago, Gregory Peck.
I agree entirely.  He's one the three actors I don't enjoy watching.  No matter what the film is Tom Hanks plays Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep plays Meryl Streep and Jim Carrey plays Jim Carrey!

topkapi - Exactly!!!!

dothawkes - Don't know Anthony Lapagia

Nice one - yes to Anthony LaPaglia.
Anthony LaPaglia plays Jack Malone in the TV series Without a Trace.
I think Adan Sandler could play Jim Carrey. I wanted to play Baby, in a corner or no.

Mr LaPaglia is probably best known as the (currently ex-) leader of the squad in C4's import Without a Trace (well worth watching) or as the owner of Empire Records (or possibly the lead in S2 of Murder One).

As Langdon in the book is described as looking like Harrison Ford, I'd Mr. Ford! It's probably because of her name and nationality, but I always pictured Sophie Marceau .

I love Anthony Lapagia in Without a Trace.  Im afraid I pictured Robert Langdon as a bit of an Anthony Hopkins lookalike (a lot older than he was)  and Sophie Neveu I pictured to look like the actress who played Amelie - dont know name.  But in the book they are closer in age with a bit of a spark between them so cant see that with those two.
I think they've got Sophie right (Audrey Tautou) but I don't think that Ian McKellen and Paul Bettany are right for their characters - perhaps I should go and read it again, but I always pictured Silas as being fairly heavily built and Teabing as being...different to Ian McKellen.
Peri, Audrey Tauto did play Amelie.

With such a successful and well known book, why does the film need such a well known star?

But if Ian Mckellen is in it do you think he could persuade Tom Hanks to do a guest spot on Corrie?  He could come back as Hilda Ogdens grandson from Oz, and Jean Alexander could come back on a one off, TV magic.

I think Paul Bettany is perfect for Silas and Jean Renu as Bezu.

Atleast they cast them right

I'm going to be different and say I like Tom Hanks and think he would do well!
I didn't realise - thanks for that Qmunke

I think they should remake the Day of the Jackal with Paul Bettany as the Jackal.  (sorry for randomness)

LeMarchand - YES Harrison Ford IS Robert Langdon!  Sophie would probably be ... erm ... Tatou is good but too sweet, not tough enough ... maybe Sandra Bullock (although a bit too familiar a face perhaps) or perhaps Salma Hayek?

Maybe Clive Owen, I would happily run round Paris with him!

I'm afraid after watching Anthony Lapaglia role as Daphne's brother in Frasier, I can't watch the man without cringing.
