British military uniforms

How come the british army always wear the combats, outside of combat e.g at funerals etc i hadly ever see soldiers in number 1's or 2's

Curious. But I think it must be done to emphasise to the British public that these men are fighting a war, and not just dressing themselves up in a fancy parade uniforms. Think how their combat fatigues must look after 6 months of fighting in Afghanistan - filthy, and with holes in the knees, etc. They'd require either a lot of laundry and repair work before they parade,.or perhaps they're all issued with new gear.
