i have heard rumours of the ps3 games having a special code on them. when the game is played the playstation recognises it allowing it to be played only on that playstation allowing the swaping of games between friends impossible.

Although part of me hopes it is true. But then I'm evil.

i hope its true. Woud mean I wouldnt have to lend any of my games out which will stop my mates from losing or scrathing them!

er... not actually possible unless the PS3 has some sort of HD-DVD burning equipment in it

It's definitely not true, although rumour had it that Sony actually did look into the idea, which they of course deny. But apparently the main reason they did look into it, is because they were so concerned about how much money they were losing to the used game market, such as in Game and the like where you buy pre owned games.

I wonder how GAME get around that the legal clause that disallows the purchaser of a game from re-selling it?

i have wondered that. if the games industry is so worried about piracy. how come Game can resell them as developer gets no cut much the same as if you pirated it?

if they did this, think of all the lost sales in ps3s, as the last post said, if it were true it would be a flop.
think about sony for a minute-and everything they make, tvs, dvd players, stereos,computers etc etc, almost every peice of hi tech equipment will have one made by sony.

plus the software aspect- sony blank discs, sony dvd/ cd burners etc- sony sell these and the chances are you will buy them to copy ps games for your mates.

if sony did this they would lose a massive amount of money-
if this idea was even bought up, i imagine it would have been on a drunken night out by some junior clerk in which he would have undoubtedly been fired and banned from all karoke bars across japan.
anyway- if im wrong il put my head in my piano, --- man.

sony are all too familiar with marketing which is why they did so well with the ps1 and ps2 and which is why they are still one of the leading brands in technology
