What are the best oven chips.?

Ron, I've got a Tefal shallow-fat fryer and I like it. It was expensive when I bought it (about £130) but I think they have come down in price now.

Many years ago I had a deep-fat fryer but I ditched it in an attempt at healthier eating.

I don't mind any kind myself,as long as they are not too thin.
I like my chunky chips I do...yummm!!

I'd go for tesco too. And as for the people that said fry them that is just really unhealthy. If you cant do overn chips because its a cop out at least cut the chips up, put in a bag with a teaspoon of oil and some parsley, swish about to cover all chips then put on a baking tray into the oven for 30 mins. Lovely gralic granules is nice on them too.

Sainsbury's Good to Yourself oven chips are surprisingly tasty and rather chunky :-)

I personally love the Extra Special version of Sainburys chips - they are chunky ones and are awesome with salt & vinegar!

Are Avatars really necessary.? At the moment Viv and I have not got one because of the difficulty I have had with trying to establish one. Consequently , Viv and I could well continue as contributors to AB as a pair of chess pawns.

I like Mccain oven chips best, and I use them instead of frying as they are less fatty.

whats this about 130quid deep pan fryers!! i´ve been using my pot from my pressure cooker for years, due to its depth, theres no splashing of oil. i just chuck in a 750ml bottle of sunflower oil, maybe sometimes olive oil. put a normal lid on, on high heat, chuck the spudz sliced into chips in, lid on again, usually fried in 15mins max. whats all the fuss?? its not that hard.

HI piggy. You only need about two teaspoons of oil in the shallow-fat fryer. They're not as nice as chips fried in deep fat but I think they're tastier than oven chips. And of course they are not as bad for you as deep fried (allegedly).

Mind you, I did go off the shallow-fat fryer a bit when I heard about them bursting into flames due to an electrical fault.

Mccains rustic chips are good. I very rarely cook chips and certainly would not go back to cooking my own from scratch as it wouldn't be worth my while with all the fat/pan rigmarole etc

Piggynose....You've made me think... I've got a pressure cooker which I haven't used for years. However I would need to get a suitable basket to fit the appliance. Any suggestions on the matter!! It could be that a colander might fit the bill; I must try the one I have.
