Not in the sense of other foodstuffs. Most wine continues to mature after bottling, some wines quicker than others but certainly wines are drinkable for a number of years if kept properly (on their side if sealed with a cork). After a wine reaches its best then it will slowly deteriorate but still be drinkable for a few more years.
You'll find that some wines, red or white, say on the label on the back of the bottle, ''Drink within one year (or even six months) of purchase''. This helpfully doesn't tell you how long they've been on the retailer's shelves!!
Laithwaites are one of the very few suppliers who show on their leaflets a '' best before'' by describing a wine, then adding a phrase such as '' till 2013'' to let you know its keeping qualities.
Some whites, like ''young Mosels'' are made to be drunk straight away.
