I'm making a pizza tonight and wanted to know if I can use tomato puree (that I have in the house) on the base as the tomatoey bit, or if I need to use passatta?

Personally i wouldnt, tomato puree to strong!!!
Passatta is tomato pure isn't it? Tomato paste would be too strong though.
oooh I love it with tomato puree thats how I used to make them.
Passatta is just sieved finely tomatoes, tomato puree is a concentrated paste!!!
I usually use tomato puree thinned with a little bit of water, and with some dried italian herbs mixed in.
I love making my own pizza using the following:

-Slice of bread
-Cover with tomatoe puree
-cover with grated cheese
-Sprinkle on dried chillies
-15 mins in the oven

Obviously you can use different types of bread (a baguette cut in half works great) and add any topping you like.

Delicious!
I think tomato pure would be too strong a taste - I personally use one of the pasta sauces (any of the JO ones are lovely) straight from the jar and just spread it thinly over the base. Don't forget to use mozarella cheese (NOT cheddar - that just separates out into gunk and fat) and drizzle a little olive oil over the pizza when you've assembled it - it gives the whole dish a lovely rich taste.
Sorry, can't spell today - should have been *mozzarella* cheese
You can buy pizza topping sauce in a jar, made by napolina, and has herbs in it. I bought mine from Asda for about 1 something (odd pence).
As rcl1....grill-toast one side of bread, toasted side to receive puree & topping with pinch of oregano, for authenticity, and grill to finish.
I use it all the time, spread it on, sprinkle with herbs and olive oil & add all your toppings - yum!
tomato puree is the best one for me ! perfect tasting and healthy for you! mama mia!
So there is a difference in the UK! Sorry didn't know that...
