Have just been to the Co-op to buy some bread . I wanted a white medium sliced loaf. So why is their Everyday loaf 30p , the Co-op middle of the range 55p and Hovis 99p? The Co-op bread looked the same apart from the wrapper . So what is the difference ? Or are we being ripped off by a brand name ? Any thoughts ?

dont shop at the co-op.
Surely that goes for almost every item in a store? There will be branded items and the shop's own which is usually cheaper, with usually next to no difference between the two.

Did I miss the point of the question? Apologies if I did!
Go and buy one of each and then try them....the 30p loaf is ok for emergencies, the 55p loaf is probably not far off the quality of the Hovis loaf and that is a real nice loaf.

Hovis wholemeal every time for me i'm afraid
If you are asking this you obviously haven't tried a 30p loaf of bread.
Not nice.
Remember the maxim: You only get what you pay for.
Give up white bread altogether - you'll feel much better for it.
I buy the 28p a large loaf Tesco bread - and it is filthy stuff.

Has the consistency of elastic and a very strong vinegar smell when you open the bag. It never seems to go stale either - it goes straight to green.

I buy it for the birds - they seem to like it.
Checking the ingredients is the only way to find out what you are buying and putting into your body. White bread is cack though. Remember that nothing is white. It is MADE white. Paper for example. Wood is brown. Paper is dyed white. As is toilet roll. White bread is so refined and processed it does you no good. Buy nice wholemeal instead!
P.s to back up my point... I bought some Co-op viennese whirls and they were gross. The reason being that they appeared slightly burnt, had mainly whirl and hardly any cream and jam. The Mr. Kipling type may be 10p more but are so much nicer. You really do get what you pay for!
i am not a lover of bread and very rarely eat it but when i do it has to be good quality bread, i like kingsmill or warburtons, maybe expensive but the best.
