What do you have for Christmas dinner? Do you have a traditional meal every year or can anyone suggest an alternative to the usual turkey/chicken/baked ham stuff?

My family always has duck, it tastes so much better than turkey cos its not so dry and it actually tastes good enough to have more than the obligatory once a year. Or maybe salmon, it's not that heavy and tastes great as long as you don't overcook it.

On my side of the pond, turkey is for Thanksgiving, ham is for Easter, salmon is for Lent, chicken is for every other Sunday and a big honkin' prime rib of beef is for Christmas. Moo, baby!

Thanks for the answers! Just fancied something a bit different this year. Its just gona be me and the two kids as everyone else is gona be away.
We usually go for a beef wellington, with the same veg as with a turkey Christmas dinner. Nice.
What about Venison, or Goose.
We've had goose for the last three or four years. Last year when bird flu was in all the news my 11 year old declared that it wasn't going to stop him having his Christmas goose!

Heathfield-Do you have a good recipe for Beef Wellington?
To cook a beef wellington Seal your meat quickly ina hot frying pan then cook for about 20 mins. if you want meat quite rare 30 mins medium 40 mins well done Allow to cool while you roll out your puff pastry( frozen is fine) Coat your pastry with pate adding saute' sliced mushrooms if liked.Place meat in centre of pastry and bring edges up to meet in centre having previously made gashes in the edges of the pastry.Intertwine the cut edges and seal well using beaten egg.Use the rest of the egg to glaze the pastry.Cook for approx 20-30 mins in a hot oven or until pastry is golden brown. The timing depends on your oven to a certain extent.Enjoy Another suggestion for Christmas lunch is pheasant or guinea fowl.If your family like goose and use frozen ones Iceland are doing a boozy goose part boned and ready stuffed this year along with turkey stuffed with duck and other exotica

Last year we had the Mother-in-Law but I think we're having a big piece of Pork this year.
Partridge (in a pear tree)
I am having crab (LIDL s doing a great deal on large crabs).

The kids are having roast chicken (hate turkey)
For a 'traditional' dinner, I prefer goose. So much more taste than turkey.

However, last year we had lobsters. It was a really nice meal and made a delightful change from all the heavy meals (other family christmas dinners). We're going for the same again this year.
We usually have Duck or Cockerel.

I tend to go over to my mums on Boxing Day so I can have my turkey cold...the best way to eat it, I reckon :o)
We have decide to do a BBQ this year with big juicy prawns, Fillet steak and marinated chicked breasts.
Firstly we cook the turkey in our weber BBQ, this gives a fantasic taste and it prevents the turkey from drying out.

Roast taties & Snips
Mashed sweet potato and butternut squash
honey carrotts
We are going to find something different to do with Sprouts
petit pois
sausage meat stuffing
chesnut stuffing
home made gravy

Plus all the other doo-dahs to go with it.
hi,try a Bronze free range turkey they are great.only reason birds end up dry is becourse they are not cooked correctly.

USUALLY its turkey or chicken, but this year, where gonna be in Portugal (i know) so it could be anything from a cheese sarnie to cereal x
clairey-s - I like your (I know) as you imagine others going Ooh! ;-)
