we take bacon to italy every year...put it in your suitcase and you will be fine
and then we wonder how foot and mouth and other diseases get transported from country to country. DEFRA impose strict regulations on importing meat and other products to protect our livestock - its a moral obligation not to.
the question was is it possible...the answer is yes it is possible!
and the regulations cant be that strict...my gran has been doing it for 60 odd years!!
why, is bacon not available in crete??
My mother in law takes bacon to Crete every year. She also takes Cracker Barrel cheese, tonic water and oxo cubes!!! She used to take butter ( frozen) but a delay one year put paid to that! Over the years she has been going (20?) she has made friends with some locals and has to take Oxo for them now!

Everything she takes is vacumn packed - I don't think there is any concern re diseases but i do think it's quite unecessary

For me, one of the great delights of travel is the fact that the food is different - I can eat bacon at home so why take it on holiday with me! I love shopping abroad - the novelty of a supermarket/market/local shop in a different country knocks Sainsbury's into a cocked hat!
the food in crete in lovely dont bother taking bacon eat the local food.
