It took me all week to work up the courage to try snails and to my amazement they were delicious.

If what In a Pickle says is true I wouldn't try frogs legs.

Had frogs legs years ago and they do taste a bit like chicken. However, there is naff all meat on them, so you put in a lot of effort (and money!) for little reward. Wouldn't bother with them again.

Regarding Pickle's answer: saw this about 10 years ago on a documentry and the guy was just sitting on the ground with a blade set vertically in the ground in front of him and 'slicing' a frog about every 5 seconds. Does put you off!

I am French and I only ate them once when I was little. Since then I have found out the cruelty involved and haven't touched them since. Plus, there is very little meat on them, they did taste OK but to me, not worth the guilt. Plenty of better food to enjoy in France.

tried them and snails (nice with garlic) have a go, they were quite nice!

Taste like Chicken, but full of thin bones and not much meat........but worth the experience.Snails(escargot) are OK too!..especially with garlic butter!

Seeing as there are snails mentioned so much - you don't have to go to France for good fresh snails - try fresh ones from Maura and Dave at the South West Snails Farm at Umberley in Devon, or buy from South Molton farmers' market held on 4th Saturday of the month.

Site for the farm: http://www.south-west-snails.co.uk/ (don't be put off by the big pic of the little piggies - they breed rare breeed pork as well...) Snail order form on the site for your use.

And don't forget - May 24th is the UK Escargot Day......yum...

Shouldn't that be UK Snail Day.

Probably should be, RT, but If Chirac can't even hear out his own business leaders in English and has to stomp off in a tiff, maybe the AB should send him this page so he can see the French language still has a place...
