They wouldn't be on sale if they weren't safe to consume. Personally, I`d prefer sugar

Aspartame was on the
market while there was questions about it.
Artificial sweeteners are an abomination. They have no nutritious value. They simply feed the appetite for sweet food, of which there is far too much available for good health. A bit like salt. People are addicted to the sweetness or saltiness, and thus lose their appreciation of the underlying food flavours. They were invented by chemists who were working for money-makers who cared (or knew) nothing about the welfare of the consumers of their stuff.

//They have no nutritious value. //

I don't think people who use it are thinking that it provides nutritional value
As 237SJ says, if sweeteners weren't safe, they wouldn't be on sale.

From the highly-reputable (US) Mayo Clinic website:
https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/artificial-sweeteners/art-20046936

From our own NHS website:

If you're going to try some, I'd suggest going for the stevia-based ones, as (for me, anyway) they don't have the nasty aftertaste that some other sweeteners seem to have.
I've been using Hermesetas in my brews for most of my adult life & I'm still here.

But , are you a sweet chap .
And while we're at it , where's my parcel ?
I only ever use sweetners in hot drinks. Diabetes got me a few years back, so I had to cut out the sugar.
Question Author
Do you drink sugar free things like coke etc?
If the above was aimed at me, then nope. I only drink sugar-free or "zero" sodas.
Sorry, misread your post, should've said "yes, I only drink..."
Mozz; You could teach yourself not to enjoy sweet stuff. Life is better if you learn not to enjoy sweet tea or sweet pop. You don't have to worry about what you drink; you just drink what you enjoy, and sugar goes out of the window. It's not difficult.
Well, I seldom drink fizzy stuff anyway, so that isn't a massive problem. Tea, and especially coffee, I can't stand without sweetening. A couple of sweeteners isn't going to kill me (I hope)
sugar/aspartame have no nutritional value the latter has no calories because it is 1000s of times sweeter than sugar so you only need a tiny amount.
Mozz; only snowflakes can't drink coffee without sweetening. How old are you?
it's virtually impossible to not eat aspartame these days it's in almost every processed food that has any sort of sweetener. eg next time you are in a supermarket try and find a cordial without it in.
Oh stop talking out your arris Athiest. Different people have different preferences with their food. I'm happy with my choice to have sweeteners rather than sugar, and when it comes to my diet, I'm the one who'll make the decisions thanks.
Did you know that cans of regular Coke sink in water while cans of diet Coke float?
Interesting factoid Sanmac. What does it prove?
Sorry, Mozz. I have granddaughters and they make me a bit intolerant and impatient with their childish ways. I really shouldn't take it out on you.
