Our friends daughter is 17 past October , he's never smoked and is totally against it however she's been sly smoking and he found out, not pleased at all...
But... she's now in hospital having tests for either gallstones or appendix and the staff have allowed her to go outside for her to have her fix, he's furious but because of her age is powerless to say anything

Hi Bobbs, as a lifelong smoker with breaks in between I understand.
She's oldest enough to make up her own stupid mind, unfortunately. How is she funding the exorbitant habit?
\\he's furious but because of her age is powerless to say anything//

Shes under 18 so someone is buying them for her.

Parents separated Rocky and had her very late in life, dad is a well off 68 yr old who will be no doubt giving her cash when she comes to stay at weekends
It is illegal to sell or supply tobacco to anyone under 18.
I/m surprised that the hospital allowed to smoke. For some years now Bradford hospitals have banned smoking anywhere on the hospital grounds.
Question Author
Sparkly she's just 17 but looks like it's got her , it's not her or her smoking I'm shocked about, the last time I was at that hospital there was no smoking anywhere in the grounds !

Webbo,she looks about 19

You obviously haven't been to the Freeman,Bobbi.
Does she smoke...or vape?
Because smoking was to be banned last April on all hospital grounds.

It's up to her. When I've visited hospitals in the pas seen patients just outside the lobby with their drips on a mobile stand having a puff. At my local Co Op I was asked fo ID to buy some booze, I'm 61, staff were apologetic but said that was what they had been asked to and flicked her eyes towards the cctv cameras.
Hopefully, she is young enough to see sense and stop.
in many hospitals, the grounds extend to a few feet over the threshold, so easy for people to go and have a fag. Lots of hospitals turn a blind eye as long as you are not staff
That’s really surprised me too tbh
How long is she in hospital?
They also have "bus shelters" where people can get undercover if it's raining.

I'm only going by what I saw when visiting Tony although thinking outside the box ( argggh) hate that saying haha
she's in for tests so if she decided to go flagging it , I doubt any of the staff could stop her
I thought they just did scans for gallstones which shouldn’t take that long, and appendix test was an examination (at Lear in my experience) so she should only be in a couple of hours
Question Author
It's kidney stones not gallstones ( mistake) as of now they are still investigating but this isn't about why she's in !
Smoking banned on hospital grounds here but patients are walking to the nearest bus shelter on the public highway.
