When the first take aways came out they were roughly half the price of a meal in a restuarant. Now today you can go out for a meal cheaper than a take away
Perhaps the problem is too many people earn so much money and it does matter anymore

£11 for how many portions and where, emmie? The last time I bought fish and chips from the chippie the cod was £4.50 each and was too big for the plate, with very crisp but thin batter
Shellfish did used to be measured in pints from the fishmonger but I don't think it generally is in the UK now. the 'count' system i was talking abour was in America, New Jersey and it was to give an idea of the size of the king prawns. They weren't pre packed in the supermarket so you could buy a dozen or ten or whatever. The count thing was to tell you how big they were, it was how many you got for a pound weight so as I said, the lower the number, the bigger the individual prawn.
each person paid roughly 11 quid for a large portion of cod/haddock and large chips
this was at brothers down on the south coast. It was nice but i thought quite pricey.
it saved having my sil from cooking for 11 or so adults and children
Thanks, emmie, I thought you meant £11 in total.
no, roughly each person.
I think the price I pay in my local chip shop is excellent value at £4.50 for the very large piece of cod but I was shocked at the prices in Norfolk last year.
We are having take-away tonight as a new place has opened in the nearest town that serves 'parmo's'. I've never had a 'parmo' so I'm looking forward to it. We rarely have take-outs but when we do its for a change, not because of convenience or value for money.
£11 for fish & chips! Holy mother of god.
they have several takeaways, i don't like curry, so wouldn't have that, but the only Fish and Chip place heaves with customers
zacs its what it costs, ours up in London are no cheaper. We have a local well known one but their prices are beyond my pocket
I remember fish n chips being a cheap meal, now it is an expensive luxury.
it is sparkly. We used to have fish and chips most friday nights as a family, i wouldn't pay the price for our local one
That's a lot of money Emmie, I had fish and chips on Thursday night and it was £6-50 pp
it is Bobbi, but that is how it panned out.
you don't know how expensive things are in the capital...
Even £6-50 is a bit extortionate
We used to call it ' a paper of fish and chips' here
i guess its what one is prepared to pay,. i only do when i am down with family,
HiBobbs, emmie and all. I remember a tanner for chips and a tanner for fish.

I love the smell of vinegar on wet newspaper.
