When the first take aways came out they were roughly half the price of a meal in a restuarant. Now today you can go out for a meal cheaper than a take away
Perhaps the problem is too many people earn so much money and it does matter anymore

I remember when you went to the chippy for fish 4d and chips 2d. In decimal £0.03
i remember a tanner for chips.
Talking about fish, I remember when fish fingers tasted good, great in a sarnie.
not any more sparkly, i have some in freezer but they don't seem right, i only use them as a last resort.
danny how long ago was that...
The chippy at the end of our street 60 years ago was great.

The spuds were cut by a big lever attached to the counter, everytime the lever was pulled down the counter shook.

The chippy owner was called Settles, he had a BROTHER UP THE STREET IN THER POLICE FORCE. wE CALLED HIM cOPPER kETTLE, HAPPY DAYS.
Cod is an expensive fish, though. I buy it in bulk when it is on offer. That is why so many boxes of frozen, breaded fish have 'white fish fillets' on the front - it isn't cod. Look on the back and in very small print it is panga (or basa, it's the same fish).
silly caps lock,lol.
i prefer huss or rock salmon, or haddock.
Emmie, late 40's
lot changed since then. If you looked at your pay packet and compare same now, its risen a hundred fold.
I remember those potato chippers, Sparky. Also a big drum that looked like a concrete mixer. Put the spuds in with water, turn the handle and the potatoes came out peeled. Later there were electric versions.
Chippies used to be things of beauty, the ranges were glorious with beautiful tiles in an art deco style and often the walls had tiled murals. The windows were etched. The owner never minded the customers warming their hands on the glass cabinets that kept the cooked fish hot.
blimey one large portion of chips round here would feed 5 of us (1 kid)
For us, F+C is probably the cheapest take away, but only because We're so greedy. If we had a chinese, i would probably have chow mein, rice AND dumplings (then instantly regret it's so big) and for a curry wed have sides
in order cheapest to most expensive for a "usual" order for 2 adults would be as follows:
1 F+C
2 pizza but only because we get it only when theres an offer on
3 chinese
4 curry
We never have takeaways, only during Covid ,at the weekend to support our local Italian restaurant..Lobster..
Was it good value? No idea...Mrs sqad payed and I didn't ask.
I love takeaway pizza. I don't care that it's expensive, it tastes so much nicer than the supermarket ones. Because I'm a regular customer, I always get offers anyway. Fancy one tonight now!

i have never had a take away pizza, not here in UK
i loved the ones sold by the street vendors in Italy, so much nicer than anything i have tried here
I only ever have Indian if I have a takeaway, but generally we spend around the £30 mark and there's a bit left for the next day.

We went out Thursday for an Indian meal and spent £84.

Takeaways are cheaper I've always found. You have your own wine for one thing!

We’ve just thoroughly enjoyed our Chinese take away, only our second since March. It was from a Chinese restaurant, beautifully cooked and piping hot.
It wasn’t in any way about the money, it was just such a nice change and a real treat.
remember they used to wrap them in old newspaper, emmie, now they have to pay for new, unused paper and you can't even read last week's news while you eat. No wonder prices are soaring. But I suppose it is better than inky chips.
