Hi, we are becoming very concerned about Mr. J2's only cousin (she's about 80). Her Christmas card described fires not far away and now we read that Catalina has been 'engulfed by flames'. We've been emailing for days, but no reply.
How can we find out if she and her little dog are safe, please - anyone? Thanks so much for any help, it's chaos over there.

I don't think that there is any one place where you can check this.Google doesn't come up with anything.
I am sure the Australian High Commission in the Strand would have a list of casualties and missing. You could try them. Good luck. I suspect their data might be a bit sketchy due to Dante’s Inferno. :-(
What about the Australia High Commission in London, a 'phone call there? This is a longshot though. I hope your friend and her little dog are safe.

Thank you all so much. Red Cross Aust. might we worth trying, London doesn't seem to know much - as I said, it's so volatile over there.
I have relatives around Melbourne - don't know if they are affected.

Also got relatives in Perth.

Red cross site seems as if it might be good, Tuvok, I've given it to Mr. J2 and he's trying it now - since he's a blood relative and you have to register your interest.
Hopefully you get a good answer.

Sadly, no, Tuvok - got nowhere. Registered Mr. J2 and then tried to put in his cousin's details, but they won't accept it without her birthdate, which we don't know - even though we knew her name and address. :(
It would appear that all the fires in the Bateman Bay/Catalina are "under control". Good news if so.

Think I would have "made one up Jordaine if it was the difference between getting info and not.
OK hope all is well, you have done all you can, phone lines, if not down, will be very busy.
You could perhaps try contacting the police in that area to ask if there's a register she might be on.

There's also an email option on that link.
How about contacing the Red Cross directly or the Sally Ann - they might be able to point you in the right direction.
If you have a friend who has an account with Ancestry.com, they should be able to find out her date of birth for you.
