Cutting Myself On A Tin Can

Yesterday, I opened a tin of tomatoes. It had a ring pull top. The lid came only half way off. I tipped the tomatoes into a sauce pan then tried to pull off the lid before washing the tin. It sliced into my palm!

I thought that tins were made on non-cutting 'tin'. Now I know that that is not the case.

(My little rant)

Oooh! Tilly...
I had these to tops that don't come off properly. I hate opening corned beef. They're lethal! Hope your hand isn't too sore.
Ouch! Unfortunately not but keep it clean and dresssed best you can...oops no pun intended and hopefully will heal ASAP.
Poor you Tilly, hope it heals quickly.
Nope - the dratted things are sharp even if they open properly.

The recycling stasi round here insist on all tins being washed - I've already nicked myself painfully doing that and I'm afraid they can now naff off - any tins that obviously need washing go in the landfill bin.

Thank you, Patsy, Dunnitall and Marval. :-)

I've put some Germolene 'New Skin' on it but it keeps opening up.

Never mind. It will heal. I'm just very surprised that you can still cut yourself on a 'tin'.

Dave I just put some hot water in and swoosh it around. I don't put my hand in the tin.

I hate those ring pull things!
Awe bless you Tilly... I don't know how you old folk cope at all with this stuff ;-)
OOoooo.....blimey, Ark.....let me know when visiting hours are...grapes or flowers?.....x
Question Author
Ring pulls are fine as long as they pull but they don't seem to. They just stop pulling.
I pulled a ring top on a tin of mixed vegetables from Tesco a few years ago. I had the shock.of my life when it exploded! It knocked my thumb and bruised it. I took.it back the next day to complain. Eventually, I had letter of apology and £20 compensation!
Me too, Tilly.....haven't pulled for an age now.... :-(
Question Author
Aww, I've put the can in the bin now. I never thought of that, Patsy.
Gness I was all set to run, hoping that Tilly got my jest...however a Dozen red roses for you my dear... Tilly I do hope that you're ok though xx
There's such a thing as non-cutting tin ?
The danger of cuts is the main reason I object to washing rubbish. The householder takes all the risks.
One can get tin openers that split the solder joint leaving tin peril free.
Bliss, Arky...thank you...x

Ark, I shall be expecting flowers too!

OG, do you have a link for those tin openers, please?
Get yourself an hands free opener, Yilly.
Those can cuts are bladdy sore aren't they ( 'New Skin' the first time my mom put some of that stuff on a cut on me was the first time she heard me say a naughty four lettered word, gawd it stung ).
