^^^^I am with BT
I wouldn't even lift and put down, just don't answer it.

Eventually it will stop.
I wouldn't answer it either. If you don't answer eventually they'll stop.
or answer it and ask t be taken off their callng list?
Asking to be taken off a calling list doesn't work either. They stop for a few weeks and start again. It's happened to me from other types of businesses.
Get one of BT's number blocking phones.
^^^doesn't have to be a BT phone....I have a Panasonic with number- blocking. Brilliant!
Phone BT customer service line free from your phone, explain your problem with this number and they will put a block on it for free. My provider did this without any charge that is Virgin.
Answer it......and at the relevant point tell the caller you have already had the procedure done. That's the one 'excuse' they don't have any sales-patter for.

You can also register with TPS Telephone Preference Service or register online on their website.
Jenny, when they ring pick up the phone and wait for their crp, interrupt the caller & tell them that the phone call is been recorded & you will use this Recording as evidence if the calls from this number persists, then ppu the phone down, we purchased a BT Phone Blocker, never had any calls since, that was over 6 months ago. I was with TPS as stated, it was a waste of time.
Agree with TWR that TPS is a waste of time.
Never had a problem with this BT Call Blocker Phone Butterbun.
going to try that TWR - thank you
Been wondering if there is any decent separate (i.e. not part of a phone) blockers out there. I was looking at one and initially quite impressed, only to read a customer review saying that it only worked if there was a single phone connected, as it didn't stop the other extension ringing, which sounded rather naff. With existing fixed line phones downstairs and in the bedroom I have no desire to replace them. Anyone any recommendations ?
ps -what does ppu mean? I'm assuming crp is missing an vowel - sorry to be thick:-)
I've got caller display and never answer any numbers I don't know, even local ones. If it's personal, people will leave me a message. If you answer it jennyjoan then you're confirming that it is a valid number and you will still get calls from them as its all automatic.
I would recommend the Phone Rsvp, never had a Problem call since.
TWR - you would recommend the Phone? Sorry, I must be thick
He would, and it's a typo for "put".
