Yesterday i mistakenly put hot chilli sauce over my sunday dinner ; mistaking it for Sweet Chilli Sauce .

I had to throw the food away because all i couldn't taste it .
There was just pure heat in my mouth .

What is the attraction of these hot sauces / peppers etc ?

Different people have different tastes, Asians who have eaten spicy food since childhood are used to hot spices.
What did you have for dinner?
I'd have had that. ;-(
I imagine you may have my problem.Sweet chilli sauce makes my mouth tingle but anything hotter is very painful so I think it is an allergy .Strong curry has the same result.
I'd never put either "over my dinner"...I'd put it onto a small dish at the side of my plate. There are occasions when I would want the hot stuff and others when I wouldn't....
Like Ginge, any spicy sauce is put on the side.

I just don't understand eating food that you can hardly taste the flavour of : because of all the heat coming from the sauce / peppers that's been put on it
Different palates perceive spicy "heat" at different levels....what's extremely hot to you could be only medium hot to me.
I love hot chili sauce, but I only put it on certain foods. Most of my cooking is done to suit hubby who likes it mild, hence the chili sauce for me!!!
I agree with you Bazile. I would start coughing and never stop! Oh well its a lesson well learned. I hope.......
A bit of advice to the blokes on here. If you have been handling chillis wash your hands BEFORE you go to the toilet or you'll live to regret it.

Who did the hot chilli sauce belong to?
Hot chillies and curries have an amazing flavour if you can get used to the heat.

I cant eat my food too hot but I love chillies and curries. My Son will eat chillies and curry that would make me cry and he doesn't bat an eyelid!

Hot curries are not actually good for you, even the Indians have a lot of stomach problems due to the hot spicy food they eat.

We picked it up by mistake , in the shopping
Oh.I see. So you have a liking for a slight spicy kick with your food then. It's just horses for courses really. In my youth I loved really hot Phals etc but my taste now has mellowed a little.I would still persevere with a hot phal today just for nostalgia.

This is the brand that we buy

You can see that the bottle of Sweet Chilli and Hot chilli is very similiar , hence our mistake

I love all kinds of chilli sauce. I wouldn't put even sweet chilli sauce on my Sunday lunch, though.

The pain from very hot chillis is part of the appeal. I've got some peanuts that are flavoured with very hot chilli powder. It's impossible to eat more than two at a time, without it really hurting, but I love them.
