I have to make a trifle for a lunch. Unfortunately I do not have any sherry - would white wine work ?

have you got any liqueurs? The wine will only work if its a dessert wine like muscat or sauternes.
I wouldn't put white wine in. How about a liquor ? Everyone has something hidden at the back of the booze cupboard !
I've never tried it but I guess not - the wine won't be sweet enough.
You can get miniature bottles of cooking sherry if you have a corner shop open?

Many thanks
any brandy ? drambuie ?
Just drink the wine, then you won't care what the trifle is like.
What is cooking sherry? I've never encountered it.
Not everyone likes sherry trifle, me for one, so personally I'd just make the trifle without putting any alcohol in it, especially given that you don't have any sherry anyway.
Eccles, you made me think so I googled it. Apparently cooking sherry has preservatives (salt) in it, so it keeps longer. How vile. Never bought it myself. Normal sherry lasts ages anyway so why would anyone bother buying 'special' cooking sherry??
Thanks Eth, I feel slightly queasy now :-(
