Do you have a family tradition for this meal or is it anything for ease and simplicity before the following days excesses?
We have something quick, simple and easy...pizza and salad this year...before we clear everything away, put the Christmas CD on and get stuck into a few drinks while peeling the veg and preparing the turkey etc. for Christmas Dinner.

What's German hotpot?
I am doing roast beef - definitely think Turkey no matter how you cook it - is always a little dry. Sista's and my appetite has diminished a little. so we dont eat too much.
Smoked pork sausages (Mattesons type) cut into thick chunks, cooked in cider with onions, can of chopped toms, chilli powder ,canneloni and red kidney beans.
What good taste you have,ethandron..were having pizza and salad too..and a few drinks..lol.... tasty easy... Wishing you a very merry Christmas... Mr&Mrs C xx

Never had a dry turkey in this house. A pack of softened butter smeared under the skin and lots of streaky rashers laid over the top, a lemon and orange in the cavity and a foil tent over it.

Same to you crisper :)
In this family it's known as Turkeys Bottom Day as everyone seems to have their hand up a turkeys nether regions..

The way I do Christmas Turkey is definiteley not dry. My eldest son (33yrs old) always hated Turkey because of it's dryness. I pinched a recipe from Phil Vickery several years back and it is the most succulent and quicker way to cook Turkey. It ends up cooking in it's own gravy as well so no extra work.
I have a video clip of it but not sure if I am allowed to use it.
Why wouldn't you be able to use it?

Sorry retro, missed you there. That sounds really tasty, I'm going to write it down right now and add it to my AB recipe collection, thanks :)
ummmm
Well as I am constantly reminded I am not sure of Site Rules but I thought there was some copyright problems. Didn't Jordyboy get something removed? Frankie Lane and "I believe" I think.
I would happily share the video recipe providing a blitzen doesn't zap me from above. :-)
Always roast a Turkey upside down, with the breast at the bottom.
That way all the juices flow into the breast and keep it moist. No need for butter, bacon or basting. Try it you will never cook a turkey any other way again.

It is a recipe from wife's scrap book when she was a student nurse in residence 40 years ago . Would you like me to type the amounts and method. It really is a simple winter warmer recipe. We do it every Christmas eve.
Jordy more than likely got his youtube clip removed because it was posted in news and he's been warned not to do that.
I don't think you will be zapped for a recipe - no definitely not.

I would be interested as I will be doing a Capon (very large chicken) on the Sunday. So would be grateful for your recipe by all means.

That is exactly what Phil Vickery says about his recipe on the video clip and I agree with him. The Turkey is virtually steamed.

If you wouldn't mind, thanks, retro, that would be very helpful.
have you sent it
