How much tax do I actually pay?
Receive a reduced state and occupational pension.
Widowed, live alone in privately rented property, Letting agent involved. Gas, electric water bills and Council Tax.
No car but regularly use bus (Bus pass) and rail (senior railcard).
Non smoker but do buy alcohol.
VAT? No longer sure which foodstuffs and other things necessary to me are now included.
Do have a Bank account and small investments.
Have an Isa (naughty me)

20% on all income over £10,000 (including pensions)

20% VAT on just about everything you buy except food/books/newspapers

5% VAT on fuel

Duty and VAT on alcohol - about £9 on a £12 bottle of scotch
I dont see a number in your original post
so estimating tax would be a taxing task

SHOULD you pay any tax ? Heavens no as a retiree - your life should be tax free - everyone knows that !

Forget, are Jaffa cakes food or luxuries? Don't like them anyway but not sure what government has decided is food. Except for themselves of course. But then, they have heir subsidised restaurants and bars and could actually afford to pay on their salaries.
Plus 20% tax on the interest from investments (not applicable to ISA's and NSI Index-linked Certificates)
