Maggie has said how special her 60th Birthday was,

Mine too was special, I was told by my daughters they would be picking me up at 8.30 in the morning for a special day out. I had nO Idea about it. I found myself at Eustan station & on a train we got over 3 hours later we were booking into a hotel in Manchester.
After lunch a Taxi arrived (I still didn't know where we were going) after about 10 mins I guessed, Yes we were going to Coronation St What a fab day it was, met Emily & Jack D.
Thats not the end, sitting in the bar in the evening who should walk in but my old dear friend who had moved to that area 5 years before & I had missed her so much. We had a super evening meal together.

My daughters had been plotting for months.

That's lovely Jem, your daughter sounds a lot like mine.
good to see that you enjoyed your special day, Jem

my 40th and my 50th were both memorable, courtesy of my mother, my very best friend and her daughters (my god-daughters)

it is nearly eight years until my 60th

Gawd! Excel you're just a wipper-snapper, nice age.
Take care and look after yourself.

jem
well, if you are looking for a toy-boy...
I will be 60 this year. With my kids living half way across the world I guess it will be a quiet birthday. I think the last birthday party I had as when I was about 7.
-- answer removed --
we won a trip to Monaco so took it for my 60th. Spent it wandering the town and sitting on the balcony outside our hotel room right above the sea. They left a choc birthday cake in our room for us but when we went for lunch in the outdoor restaurant they produced another one and sang Happy Birthday. Nice.
I have a group of friends...seven of us who, when we worked together, were the Moaning Minnies......used to be the Menopausal Moaning Minnies but we got too old for that. Since retirement we have been the Tots......Tarts on Tour.
We have done something special for each 60th. Trips to London, Lille, Spa days, special dinners with Magicians. Lots of surprises, fun and fizz.
Tonight we have been planning the last 60th and then we start on our 65th birthday treats.
For my 60th two friends arranged a whole day making me do things from Jenny Joseph's poem...Warning.
I'm glad you had a lovely day, Jem.

I'm not good with 'big' birthdays.

My 18th was spent watching my dad play darts. (He was captain of the pub team. I'd gone along as a reserve, expecting to get a game, but I just sat in the corner all night).

My 21st was on the first day back at college after the Easter vacation. My mum had given me lots of money to have a great night out but all of my mates had either got back so early that they were too drunk to go out again or they got back after closing time. I found one guy, that I didn't really get on with, to have a single drink with me but I spent the rest of the night alone.

On my 30th birthday lots of my colleagues bought me whiskies in the pub. I was drinking beer so I poured all of the whisky into a single glass, to enjoy at the end of the night. The barmaid cleared the glass away and poured the lot down the sink!

I think that I was probably working behind a bar (and not allowed to drink) on my 40th birthday.

I did manage to enjoy my 50th (in a Moroccan restaurant in Norwich) but the friends I'd really have liked to have been there couldn't make it. (I had just one friend with me).

My 60th will be in April. I'm not really expecting much from it!!!
Have an AB knees up, Chris :-)
Ummmm:
For the past few dozen Saturday nights I've toyed with the idea of going to a pub but I've always decided that I can't afford it (or it's too wet, too cold, or whatever, to make the effort) so I've spent every one of those nights here on AB. I think that I can confidently predict that 20th April will be the one Saturday night when I won't be thinking about AB ;-)
Invite some ABers along :-)
Ummmm:
I'll consider your recommendation carefully - but only after thoroughly reading the Public Order Act. I fear that it might be breached!
;-)
Order??

Pint of Old Knob Wangler and a bag of nuts please, Chris ...
I will be 60 this year too - not sure what will happen, but do have a wish, who knows.
Dave:
If we end up in the Kings Head in Norwich (which is possibly where I'll be on my birthday) I'm sure that they'll have something to your taste ;-)
We might all turn up now :-)
Once I know for certain where I'll be, Ummmm, I may well offer an open invitation to everyone on here but, with my track record (as above), I wouldn't actually expect anyone to turn up!
20th April Chris? That's my birthday too!
..... and as a chaser to your birthday Chris, come along to this
