Terre Degli Angeli Greco di Tufo. This is a bold an expressive example of the ancient Greco monovarietal. Abundant with tropical fruit and honey flavour, this wine is powerful yet elegant, very balanced with a long finish. Partners very well with cold dishes such as stuffed vine leaves and marinated artichoke hearts. Available in Waitrose for £13.99.

Marlborough Sounds NZ Sauvignon Blanc. A dynamic wines with striking aromas and favours of passionfruit and citrus zest. The perfect white to serve on its own or with a goats cheese starter. Currently on offer in the Co-op at £5.49.

Have you tried the Coop Malborough Sounds NoM?
Question Author
Yes, DT. Had a bottle Tuesday night with guests.
I did post this at the fag-end of last weeks thread - apologies for people who have a nasty attack of deja-vu .....

The Co-op has got a 2006 "Marques de Valido" Rioja Reserva on offer at £5.49 - at this price it's a real steal - loads of lovely fruitiness & great with Roast Dinners :)

< don't bother with my local co-op minimarket though - the shelves have just been cleared :+) >
so against say an Oyster Bay, how would you rate it?

By the way, what's your choice for Xmas day?
Question Author
I may have to give that a try, Dave. I am off to the Co-op shortly.

DT, we are having Beef Wellington to eat and to drink we have Veuve Clicqout and Ravens Wood Zinfandel 2007.

How about you?
Question Author
Re the Oyster Bay, Marlborough Sounds is more or less on a par with that. My favourite NZ sauv is the Azure Estate which is also available in the co-op. It's fruit and flinty and so refreshing.
I was trying to avoid Truro tomorrow except for the cheese shop which is on the edge of the town - it was a zoo in there today.

I have a Zephyr 2010 Sauv Blanc to go with a salmon mousse,
A Marqués de Vargas Riserva 1998 with Roast Duck and cheese
A Royal Tokaji 2005 for dessert and I may sneak a glass of that up front as I acquired a taste in Belgium for a wee snifter of a "Sauterne or Ice wine" as an aperitif....

Evening smoked salmon, cheee nibbles like pigs in blankets, and some cold duck and turkey, a Martin Cendoya Rioja 06
Now the Azure is worth knowing about as I find Oyster Bay a bit thin......
If your like Ravenswood, keep your eye out for a small winery Plumpjack if you ever get the chance to try that, NoM - don't know if it is available here in the UK - it's on the same road as Groth, Opus One and Nickel and Nickel......controversial at the time as they were the first to go screw cap.
What would you recommend to accompany a capon (or as the EU now dictates, a capon-style chicken), NoM?
Question Author
Hi Euphemia. You want something fresh and zippy but nothing that will overwhelm the capon's flavour. Morrisons are doing a verdejo called Cano for around a fiver. Asda are selling a beautiful Albarino for under £8 and I would probably be inclined to go with that.

DT... I am always on the hunt for a good, complex Zinfandel, if you find any. Your menu sounds lovely.
NoM seems to have gone shopping - the local co-op is under siege :)

I think the Aldi Chablis ( http://www.aldi.co.uk...ecial_buys3_22313.htm ) would be lovely with a Capon - it's got a bit more ooomph than some whites & would go well with a Roast ...
Not a huge drinker of it but I will keep a look out for you. Plumpjack is a Cab S by the way,
Question Author
Is it Aussie, DT?
Have you tried the Bonterra Zinfandel - £12.49 at Waitrose ?

Another good one is Ridge Vineyard Lytton Springs - unsure of a supplier though. An independent wine shop maybe.
Napa Valley.....
Wine Society has that, Ouzel......
as does the Oxford Wine shop and HarperWells.com
Question Author
Thank you very much, ouzel. M&S do a very good one for a tenner.

Thanks, DT. I will endeavour to try it.
You mentioned icewine earlier. Have you tried the Inniskillen?
Thank you .
