How to remove stains?

How do I remove bolognaise (tomato) stain from wool jumper?

Is it dried in or still damp?

I'd try either rubbing salt into the stain r a gentle cycle in the machine with Vanish.

Thanks Alba, it is an old stain and I have tried Vanish on numerous occasions, still no joy.

Have you tried soakin gthe item in cold water for a little while then rub the stain with the old fashioned lifebouy soap then washing the item in your usual
detegent. I had a blood stain on a white article and soaked it in cold water, the n after a little while i rubbed the article with the old fashioned (red) lifebouy soap then rinsed the article and washed it in my usual (not biological would you believe) soap detergent and the stain came out. Good luck, worth a try it worked for me.

dido...if all else fails....die the garment a darker colour than the stain!

Thanks Guillie. I have tried soaking, but not Lifebouy. Will get some tomorrow and give it a go. Blood will always come out if soaked in cold water for long enough.

Having advised Vanish, I've tried the bar, spray and powder. Sometimes I've struck lucky, others not.

I'll buy a bar of lifebuoy tomorrow as a stand-by. Thank you for the tip gullie.

Dido thank you for your response to my suggestion. I am a great believer in the old fashioned lifebouy for any stain just apply it liberally on the stain and a gentle rub then rinse and wash as usual. Sunlight seemed to do the trick as well the soap i mean, but cannot seem to get it these days.

If you really want to keep the garment (if it's a favourite) find something to cover it with.........motif or something...failing removal of stain....try dye!..good luck

Thanks Raz, I had thought of that too. It is a favourite walking top which has been a lifesaver in cold weather, so I am loath to part with it.

Just go to some dry cleaner and he will do the job for you. Don't try to experiment at your own.

Also, if you can, leave it in the sun. That always helps.

whiskeysheri - I haven't heard that before, I thought sunlight damaged stuff rather than removing stains.

It's always worked for me, dido. I constantly spill stuff, usually tomato based and if there's a bit of the stain left when it's been washed, leaving it to dry fr a day in the sun seems to make it fade significantly.
