I know what you mean Trim, but when the weather is hot I like to try and stick to 'recipe' salads rather than just lobbing a load of raw veg in a bowl and serving with the same dressing....it all gets a bit samey.
A Greek salad is a thing of wonder though, as is salad nicoise made with flash fried fresh tuna ;-)
Which is why I try to stick to recipes when I lob raw (and occasionally cooked) stuff into the bowl.
I use my imagination by varying what gets lobbed in from day to day so that we are eating something different each time.
I remember 'salad' when I was a kid; lettuce leaves, wedges of tomato, sliced cucumber etc. Sadly for some this still constitutes salad, there is so much more out there to be explored and I don't mean supermarket coleslaw!
Perhaps...but when you've spent as long as I have trying to get Mr Cake to eat salad you have to learn to be imaginative, he likes lettuce but not cucumber because it is boring What The Funicular?
I had to pop out...and then my grandad sent me to the supermarket so I got the ingredients for the Parma ham, fennel, and peppers....so I also have nice plumb toms, mozzerlla and rocket. OH informed while I was there that he doesn't actually remember eating it at the wedding so that's a bonus :-)
I'll give some of the other salads a bash through the week...
