I remember it well. I was visiting a client in their office checking through some book proofs. Someone came into the office and said, 'Some idiot's just flown a plane into the World Trade Center. I bet they were drunk.'

How wrong could they be.
We were heading to Mallorca airport for a flight home to Gatwick. The atmosphere at the airport was awful and once on the plane the pilot announced there may be a possibilty of being diverted. A few people wanted to get off. It was a dreadful day.
I was in a sports shop. They had the radio on quite low and I'd bent down to look at something which happened to be next to a speaker. I shouted for them to turn the radio up. We just all stood there listening.

(it was a small independent sport shop, not a big store like JJB)
I was helping out at a community centre with some of 'What is Britain coming to' yoofs.
I was at work when I first heard.
Working for Sun Microsystems, in one of their plants in the UK. A very sad day in the office.
I was in my office when my friend called me. He said "Get to a TV now !"

I was in a queue at the local Council Rent Office waiting to plead my late mentally disabled sister-in-law's case to stop her being evicted from her home.

There was a tv in the waiting area - nobody really knew was was actually happening, as the reports were coming in thick and fast. It wasn't until I was driving home that I heard the full horrible story on the car radio, and then it sunk in what had happened.
I was in school in Chemistry, I just remember nungate running out to talk to my friends mum when she dropped me off after school
I was waiting for the afternoon edition of 'Neighbours' to start when the breaking news reports were broadcast. I sat and watched news programmes for hours in complete shock at the devastation.
Some thieving git had nicked my car from the end of my drive, so I watched it live on the TV. I nearly jumped out of my chair when the 2nd tower was hit.
We watched it on our PC's in the office in absolute stunned silence. Our American colleagues were all trying to ring home but couldn't get through.
Same as daffy, I also had a hangover and then later in the afternoon had an appointment at the hairdressers.
I actually can't remember.
I was out of work at the time, playing Gran Turismo on a PS2, eating peanut butter and jam sandwiches when my friend called to ask if I'd seen what was going on in New York, I hadn't, so turned over to see the most jaw dropping thing I've ever seen on TV!
I was ironing in the kitchen and my son came in from playing pool on hol. from uni and said 'Quick! Switch on the TV, there's been a plane crashed into the Twin Towers'. Horrible.
I was working at home (as I did every day back then), listening to Radio 4. They announced it and I immediately went and put the TV on - at that point the second plane hadn't hit and there was still speculation as to the cause. I sat glued to the TV for the rest of the afternoon.

I wasn't alive for JFK and my first memory of a "where were you" incident is when Space Shuttle Columbia exploded. I was sitting at my desk at university, writing a letter and listening to Steve Wright.

The next one was Princess Diana, then 9/11. I wonder what the next one will be ...
I was in Rome with my boyfriend at the time. It was shown on a tv in a cafe. We couldn't believe what we were seeing. We had friends there who were celebrating their 1st wedding anniversary. They were due to go to the restaurant at the top of the towers that day but decided to go the day before (thankfully)as it was a lovely day and they were worried that the 11th wasnt going to be as nice a morning. It always makes me think of what could have been. They have pictures taken from their hotel room which overlooked the towers and it is so surreal.
Contracting at Cable & Wireless in the City. Everybody piled into the rec room to watch it on TV.
