indeed, but they are not spending enough money, I know some people who are buying lots of food and drink instead of gifts
Count the bags, not the shoppers!
I agree deggers they say "everyone" is shopping online and ignoring the shops, not in my experience anyway!!!

unless ya went park and ride
and oh yes there are shopping and not all for food
cazzzz
How are they paying ?
At a guess, with money :-)
silly billy .

Credit card ?
Paying by credit card especially at this time of year, people tend to lose track as they are not physically handing over money, encouraging problems for the new year!!!
Hopefully people will only buy what they can afford.

and no doubt argos will have the annual LONG LONG returns queue in the new year lol
.. so will M&S - my mum used to buy anything for my auntie from M&S, anything would do as she could take it back and exchange it after Christmas.
M&S are only making money on their food halls, the gen merch is failing as they have bought badly this year. many retailers are putting everything behinf xmas and it's make or break for alot, what we need is 6 inches of snow mid-week to stop the internet deliveries and then retail workers can keep their jobs next year.
Internet buying is the modern prerogative.

I would like to see many of the chain stores leave the High Street and have more independent shops return. Consequently the level of service would probably improve exponentially as would a product that consumers actually want.

Loads of people in restaurants all the time.
ahhh, so you'd rather pay an exclusive price for an exclusive item than a low price for an item that the store has been able to negotiate a bulk purchase price on, thus passing on the saving to customers? interesting.
We can pay low prices on the internet.

Pubs round here seem to be managing okay.
in the last 5 years this village has lost 4 of it's 8 pubs, i know it sounds alot of pubs for one village but it didn;t used to be, it's an ex pit village and used to have distinct parts where the pit workers from the 4 different mines lived and worked, no pits now, no miners, now at least the 4 left can survive
I've bought every single Xmas present on the internet this year, mainly from Amazon and John Lewis. I'm confident people will like what I've bought them, have stuck to a budget, and will pay the credit card in full in January.
No Dotty, I'm saying that I would prefer not to shop in an identikit High Street, where a broad brush decision has been made about what the consumer is seeking.

I would prefer to shop in towns that value the small business and the diversity it brings to the town. Bath prides itself on independent retailers and thrives on it as do many other towns.
I do 95% of my shopping on the internet nowadays and all my Christmas presents have been bought that way.
