working in a bank

ever since i was little my dream job was to work in a bank (cashier) there is an advertisment in my local natwest bank for new recruitments, i want to go for it but i was wondering what do they look for when employing people, i deal with accounts in the job i am in now but i didnt do too good on my maths gcse all those years ago thanks ssx

Don't worry, its all computerised, no adding up required!

I worked for NatWest for 17 years and I'm crap at adding up. Do you have any qualification in maths at all? The recruitment process has probably changed massively since I was taken on but as you deal with accounts in your present job you should probably be ok.

To be honest I think they look for people who are likely to be good at selling more than anything, to make sure you can hit all those targets! I couldn't, that's why I left!

i got a D in my maths gcse , im currently on a AAT course though at the moment as well so thats another problem having one day a week of to go to college for this course,
i dnt no if they do that at the bank?

Yeh Natwest are actually flexiable and will give you the day off. I left Natwest after being a cashier for a year. The sales targets are never reduced and all the branches are pitted against one another. I'm not saying its a bad job, but remember its all about sales. The maths isnt too important as they do provide you with a calculator. If you do wanna know more about the job, im more happy to help. I can provide you with my email.

It depends on what bank you apply for. I got an e in maths but the majority of the work is done on the computer which works it out for you. Normally, they will conduct a telephone interview first, with possibly a few simple maths questions and if you pass that, they will invite you for a face to face interview. Depending on what role you go for, you may need to do a role play. Remember, be bright and bubbly, lots of personality and lots of open questions. What they look for is how you conduct yourself and with others. Good luck!
