i started trading as a mobile caterer on 7th april 2006, i have not the foggiest idea of what i am supposed to claim or what to pay, i also have a part time job, i did receive a tax return from inland revenue, but then a collegue told me i would only need to do one next year!! any help would be appreciated

If you received a tax return you HAVE to send it in. However it will relate to the year ending 5 April 2006 - before you started trading - so it will be a lot simpler to fill in. You've got about another 6 hours to do it and get it to the tax office.
Simply get your self an accountant some work from home and are cheap some are not {get a quote} Any good accountant will pay for themselves many times over
