I opened my pay slip today and found my tax has sky rocketed. I contacted them and they explained that according to thier records I had been paying far to low on the tax code they had recorded.

I then told them what I had been paying and they agreed there had been an error, I rang the wages dept who siad they would send a letter verifying what I said. This is not aceptable to the tax man, I have to wait for the P60 to be issued in May, this means next month and maybe June I will be hit very hard with tax.

My appeals have fallen on deaf ears is there anything I can do?

The tax office should have sent you a letter a few weeks back regarding a change of code - they send one to you and one to your employer. That letter explains the reason behind any change of coding and how you've underpaid. If you didn't get that, ask them for a copy.

Thanks

They have the code wrong, neither they or the wages department will tell me who made the error.

I didn't get a letter neither did wages until the change in coding.

I have rung the tax office 3 times today I have spent a total of 1hr 40 min on hold.
