What do you need to raise it for? Knowing will help us to answer your question.
Please don't say it's for a trip to Kenya (amount of money looks very familiar) with one of the companies that will take you out there and look after you! You can do charity work out there for much less money and you won't be lining the pockets of company directors who are making a fortune out of you!
Car washing? Get your friends together and charge 5 a car

Its going to Borneo, but its not with some company that will take half the money themselves. Its a group of us, one of whom has a link to a charity and he wants us to go out there and help
You could get a job for the next 18 months!
How about a charity auction or raffle?

Try and get local businesses and other people to donate prizes as free publicity for them such as cinema tickets, meals out, signed stuff such as a local football shirt or ball etc...

Get somewhere local to hold it free for the extra trade and publicity.

Consider events like a kareoke competition (XFactor Style) or quiz where you pay to enter.

A local band night where a venue could hold it for the trade and publicity and get local bands to come free for the exposure.

Get local schools and colleges involved and see if they can raise some money towards it and in return you could go in and raise awareness, do a presentation for them and go in afterwards and report back.

How about doing some odd jobs for people, simple stuff like car washing, mowing the lawn, running errands, dog walking and such.

Put up some leaflets in places such as supermarkets, libraries, community centres and that saying all suggestions considered and details about what you are raising money for. Maybe put some through letterboxes in the local area.

A charity fashion show can be a lot of work but can raise a lot of money.

Local retailers could use it as advertizing, charge for entry and send a bucket round for donations. Maybe the retailers will donate as well.

Maybe put some entertainment on as well such as get some lovely local lads to do the Full Monty routine, we did this at an event and it went down a storm and attracted a load more people!

You could even have a slave auction, get some guys dressed up in sexy uniforms haha. Who could resist their own "firemen" doing the moving ;)

Ask at work if you can have a dress down day, if possible, for which each person donates 1/2.

You could have a couple of these each between now and when you go.
Ask in local supermarkets if you can get donations for bag packing and carrying it to people's cars, with umbrellas if it's raining and have a general collection too.

Set up a fundraising website for it and sell advertising space and give thanks for donations. Get in the local press too and see if you can get on local TV and radio.

Carwashing as said about is also a good one. Girls in bikinis tend to work a treat in the summer!

How about offering a gift wrapping service in a local shopping centre for Christmas.
Hi Jelly T
I work with a charity in KKneya NOT the one mentiuoned earlier
As a registered charity one can get cheaper flights with Key travel and extra baggage allowance for all those clothes and medical things to give away.
The charity MUST be registered and would therefore qualify for the tickets.
If they paid for your ticket and you paid/donated the cost of the tickets to them, they could then get gift aid of 26p per 1 from the tax man , making themselves some good money and taking it away from the government who could spend it on Bulletts for Iraq

First of all, congrats on getting your fundraising started! Raising support for a worthy cause can be super rewarding.

One route you might want to consider is setting up a homepage for your group on a fundraising website.

Raising support online is much simpler and more tidy than raising funds via cash or check (most sites can link donations straight to your bank account through a merchant processor). And having a group page gives you a central place to post information, photos and let people know what you do - this helps you promote your cause to friends, family and whoever else you want.

There are plenty of sites these days that help groups meet their goals - here are some good options:

First Giving (www.firstgiving.com) is a solid one. They charge about 5% on donations raised and have a simple structure to set up your page (though you may have to be a certified non-profit to register with them).

If that's the case, another option is Empowered (www.empowered.org). They process about 3.5% on donations raised, offer lots of tools to help organize/fundraise, and I know they support all small groups, regardless of non-profit status.

And you could always try to send up your own PayPal account to link to you directly, but this is a little trickier and a bit inflexible.

Good luck getting your fundraising going, I hope this helps!
