I have just read that electricity companies will give customers money back if they put on their appliances eg washing machine during the night , I wouldn’t go out or go to bed until machine is finished as it’s dangerous and if you live downstairs from someone who has a machine going all night above your head it is rather annoying and keeps you awake .
I live on bottom flat and have had neighbours putting washing machines on during the night and have spent sleepless nights thankfully have good neighbours now .
Yes TheWinner, it was called Economy7. I had it many years ago in a flat.
If I remember correctly the price was lower between midnight and 7am, but higher during daytime hours, so it wasn't always economical. You had to use it wisely to make savings.
I think the main saving with economy 7 was with the old style storage heaters - heat up overnight / give heat out during the day. Not so much with kitchen etc. appliances.
They were HUGE - full of concrete blocks. The one in my living room was the size of a sideboard. I chucked it out & just used an electric fire plugged into the economy 7 socket.
When I had Economy 7 I always set the washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, immersion heater to run at night. I've never worried about leaving the house empty with the washer on.
trouble with camping lights is that the cheaper cannisters/cylinders can contain a higher percentage of unsaturated butane - which burns to H2O, CO2 and a good proportion of Carbon Monoxide....with all the consequences this can bring on - the same reason as not cooking with a BBQ inside - unless there is exceptional ventilation.
^^^ And, by the way, I'm going to buy whatever camping lights I can get my hands on. It's a bad area. Electricity was off for 2 hours last week and all our clocks on boiler etc. didn't work for days. I think that tonight's cut will be coming up to the 10th this year.
