I am not up to date with these things but I am fairlt sure you are not. Best to phone the benefits agency and ask them but beware of giving your details over the phone in case you want to later apply and say you were asked to leave...
not for 12 weeks if you resigned

For Job Seekers Allowance it depends why you resigned. If you just decided to leave then there is a waiting period. If you left (for example) because you were being harassed or bullied then it might be different. You should approach the local Job Centre.

If you are renting accommodation you might be entitled to Housing Benefit. You could also possibly get Council Tax Benefit. Both depend on amount of your savings and other factors. Apply to the Local Authority.

If you have dependent children you can probably claim Child Tax Credit - 0845 300 3900

could you not just bend the truth ever so slightly, as per Scarlett's post? After all, your contract was due to end anyway wasn't it.......
Probably best to not bend the truth too much, cos they'll find you out...
