Any fellow bookkeepers out there?
I’ve always done our business books by hand, but now we have to use software to send HMRC our VAT return. I’m a bit befuddled by it all.
Our accountant has recommended QuickBooks. Does anyone know about this one, or used something else easily?

Quickbooks are doing lots of advertising at moment. My ex used to book keep for several companies and used sage. I would think most companies will give you a free 30 day trial so you can at least try before you buy. Your accountant will maybe be best placed to advise as he has a good knowledge of your accounts.

Thanks, TonyV.
I used an old off-line version of QuickBooks for years and it did everything I needed. However, the laptop I was using crashed and I lost the data. I bought a new version of QB and hated it. I didn't find it very user-friendly and I didn't like that I couldn't use it off-line.

Thanks, Edmund. Are you still a bookkeeper?
I’ve looked at Sage and QuickBooks. They both seem to charge a monthly fee rather than just a one-off payment for the software.

I think if HMRC insist on us doing it this way it should provide free, accessible software.
