The code is normally shown as the last three digits on the back of the card (on, or next to, the signature strip). If you've found a longer number, simply ignore everything except the last three digits. If that doesn't help, please tell us what type of car you're trying to use. (Debit card? Credit card? Issuer?).

These cards are specifically designed for teenagers. You cannot get an ordinary debit/credit card until you are 18.
I think that we're getting there slowly!

If it's a Halifax Young Saver account the only type of card which can be issued is a cash card, not a debit card. So it can be used to withdraw cash but not to directly pay for purchases (either in store or online).

The same seems to apply to other 'Young Saver' accounts, such as those operated by Lloyds and Metro Bank.
Lloyds (so I guess other banks as well) offer two kinds of cards for young people's accounts. One is a fully fledged Visa Debit card, the other is what they call a "Cashpoint Card" and is only suitable for withdrawing money from an ATM.
Basic point of contract law. Generally speaking a minor cannot enter into a legally binding contract, though there are exceptions for necessities.
If these cards are issued to under 18s only, is it to stop them trying to buy age restricted products (alcohol, cigarettes, knives, etc ) on line?
No, see my post above, re legality.
have you looked at the T and C set to you with your card by the issuer?
I think you will find that a young savers card can not be used for online or telephone purchases. That is why there is no number.
Tell us if you're under 18 then we can put this matter to bed.
I understand that American Express Cards do not have a CVC / CV2 code on the signature strip on the reverse.

Instead, there is a 3 or 4 digit code on the front of the card (above/right of the card number). This is the code to quote.
Santander provide a Visa debit card for 11 - 18 year old that can be used for online shopping.
Any child can make a simple shopping contract - buying goods for cash or equivalent, which a debit card is. Buying on credit is a different matter.
