I received a letter from Mackenzie Hall today, on a “personal matter.”
I rang them and they told me that apparently I owe Sky £97 going back to 2009. I said that I had had Sky since 2003 and had never missed a payment or been cut off by them. They said that Sky don’t take any action on un-paid bills and when I moved house after my husband died in 2011, they would have just given me a new Client Reference Number and maintained my account.
Now: a) I have no knowledge of this debt or suffered any stoppage of my Sky.
b) I had to petition for Bankruptcy in December 2011 therefore any debts before this date are written off.
They are asking me to contact Sky to get them to supply evidence of this debt and get back to them, at my cost.
What should I do? Should I write to them?
When I told them I was bankrupted, it didn’t seem to register and that fact was just ignored.
This contact brought back all the old fears and emotions I went through back in 2011.
Not nice.

TIA

Ignore them. If they contact you again, just give them your bankruptcy number (think it is the date of bankruptcy and court location). They have bought an old date and are hoping you will pay. Don't let them frighten you, if they don't listen tell them to F off.

Thanks FF and sherr. Those old posts don't say what happened though.
I think I'll take your advice sherrardk, especially the last bit.
There is absolutely no reason why you should pay anything or do anything about this. You were probably speaking to an untrained minion who was not aware that the debt will have been written off in your bankruptcy (& may not have taken this in - deliberately perhaps!) when you told them.

Write to them with a copy of your bankruptcy order. (Recorded delivery; keep a copy). Tell them you will ignore any future contact - it is up to them to go back to Sky if they wish to do so. If by any chance they are stupid enough to issue a County Court claim you must submit your defence - which will simply result in their claim being thrown out by the judge!
