Onwards and Downwards Continues in March 2014

Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

Let's have some really new ideas about seasonal produce. Had a look here to find out what we should be eating in UK at this time:

Then found this yummy looking recipe for a chicken caserole:

So what else can you offer us to keep the hunger pangs at bay using seasonal veg?

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

Good Morning All, Down 2 lbs again. I can't believe it. This has been going on for ages but it must be the smaller portions. That is over a stone since Christmas. Good luck to the rest of you today and I do know that luck has nothing to do with it!

Good Morning All,
Down 2 lbs again. I can't believe it. This has been going on for ages but it must be the smaller portions. That is over a stone since Christmas. Good luck to the rest of you today and I do know that luck has nothing to do with it!
Well done Xstitcher and I have proved that too with smaller portions as this is my first loss for a few weeks of 1and 1/2 lbs ,
Apologies but I can't record today. For sure I went up a bit over the long weekend away, but Monday & Tuesday's weighings suggest it was gradually coming back down again. But this morning's weighing was ridiculous and has me more than a little annoyed.

I know I've discussed this previously so will get no sympathy but:

For the last 2 days I've been at or around the target input for the day so I expected a slow reduction. The first weighing today I saw the scales claiming I'd put on about 1 lb over 24 hours, which was unbelievable enough. But then, because my memory is getting worse and worse as I age, by the time I'd got to the PC I realised I'd already forgotten the exact figure for lbs so went back and weighed again.

On subsequent weighings the scales were making out I'd put on around 2 lbs over 24 hours. Which is utterly ridiculous.

So I'm not in the best of moods at present. Judging from yesterday's weight I suspect I've put on just over 1 lb for the week, but today's reading is being discarded.
Congratulations Wendilla....way to go.....could it be water retention OG? I know very little about WR but I know that salt is one of the causes.
Unconvinced x. I think it is the same old problem with the scales. The number of times I've searched the net for a replacement I'd be happy with, wasted hours not spotting anything I wanted nor trusted :-(

I don't think today's mood compensating breakfast of toast, gentlemen's relish & half milk coffee will have started the day on an optimistic note though.
Morning all and well done to the losers. I had a minor eye/nose surgery yesterday and am taking it easy today. I'm feeling fine this morning but I didn't weigh in as i clean forgot what day it was. A bit preoccupied with dressings, eye drops and antibiotics.

Now that's over and breakfast is done, I'm doing an extremely good impression of a couch potato! But I've stocked up on fruit and veg and there's plenty of soup in the house, so I'll try not to go too far off the rails.
Hope you will be back to yourself ASAP Maydup. I see lots of kiwis around and bought a pundit of them. They are lovely with pink grapefruit and a sprinkle of sweetener as the grapefruit is very tart. Now if you really want to go ape you can add a chopped orange and a sliced banana...it really looks pretty but won't hold much more than 24 hours.
Status quo for me today, have put on 4 lbs since rib injury but have now restarted exercise regime (albeit gingerly) so hope to continue with weight loss when reporting in next week. Have got myself a Body Analyser & Scale so that I can record my Body Mass Index. As I'm not as young as I used to be (by a long way) I want to keep an eye on Muscle and Bone Mass as I understand that these decline with advancing years and I want to be sure that any further weight loss is in fact FAT. Congratulations to xsticher and wendilla for their weight loss.
Well done Xstitcher and Wendilla!! I'm still maintaining my weight. I do keep looking in on here for good ideas, tips and recipes, and to see how everyone's doing. :-)
You will be fine Penelope. The BMI is an excellent thing to go by. It is my ultimate goal. Nice to hear from you Marijn and glad to hear that you are keeping stable. Well done you.
Thanks Xstitcher :-)
Hi Penelope good luck for next week .you will soon get back to your regular routine .
Well done marijm to being able to maintain your weight . It is not easy .
Thank you Wendilla. :-)
Wish I'd maintained my weight when I last reached target. It is so easy to take one's eye off the ball when the mind set is that you've done it and need not monitor any more. Shove in a few family difficulties and the next thing one knows, one has drifted off to the "overweight" area again. It seems to be a lifelong activity to try to stay fit, healthy, and where one wishes to be weightwise.
Last time I reached my goal weight I relaxed too much and put weight back on quickly. But this time, I look in on here every week and it encourages me to keep to the straight and narrow. I like reading about how everyone's doing and I still feel part of the Onwards and Downwards club.
Well maybe not downwards any more :-D
When I reached my goal I kept it for about a year and then got careless! I knew I was sliding but choose to ignore the obvious with the thought...oh well just a couple of weeks back on the regime and I'll be fine again HA ..it doesn't work that way, so here I am 4 years later still trying to get back where I belong. I must say that I seem now to have found the music that suits me and it's going very well....fingers crossed. I have learned quite a few lessons along the way and I think the best one is to remain vigilant..the scales are your friend, don't ignore them.
Well said XSTITCHER we think we are safe and hide away from the scales.
I don't know if we have talked about this tip before. NEVER go grocery shopping when hungry. You won't be so easily tempted on a full stomach.
That's good advice Xstitcher. When I'm hungry when I'm shopping I usually grab chocolate to alleviate the immediate symptoms. I'm now trying to remember to carry an apple or something equally good in my handbag.
