Onwards and Downwards Continues in February 2014

Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

Welcome to the month of love everyone, February is here. So how do you combat all the chocolates and cakes due around the 14th? Could you gently suggest to your sweetheart a low sugar, non fat alternative?

Are there any and what do they taste like? I like the look of these:

And these heart shaped tomatoes with a healthy dip:

Please do give us your ideas about a healthy Valentine's Treat.

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

Here is last months thread

I did a search for "healhty valentines day" and there were loads, I picked out two that looked tasty and were ACTUALLY healthy :-)

I think i might do the heart roasters on Valentines, with a sprinkle of ground garlic and rosemary instead of salt x
Cheers.
Good Morning All,

Just the same this week and I'm sure that I owe it to my giving into a small box of Turkish in
Lidl. I enjoyed every sinful mouthful and consider myself Lucky it was such a small box. I hope the rest of you were stronger in the face of temptation than I was lol.
That was to read Turkish Delights...
Morning . still the same as well. Not been 100% good but have not given into choc.or cakes as not bought any.
Oh, what delights xstitcher, at least they are low fat!

I have lost half a pound and happy to be pointing in the correct direction at least. OH buys packets of biscuits and I've struggled to resist the odd one here and there this week. But I do make sure I have plenty of fruit and yoghurt to turn to when i need a sweet moment. Although another weakness is the occasional mug of hot chocolate from the work cafe mid afternoon....it really is comfort drinking and I must stop before it gets out of hand!

Any suggestions to help me overcome these sugar cravings when they come along?

Maydup the only thing I can suggest as it works for me is a glass of unsweetened grapefruit juice in the mornings it seems to stop me craving for sweet things . I find if I don't have it every morning I will want something sweet but this is not suitable for some people on certain medication . It is not easy in this cold weather to get away from the hot choc drinks especially at work.
Down 2¾ lbs allegedly.

All the best wishes to you all for losses in the coming week.
Maydup, have you tried Cadburys Highlights hot chocolate? It's 40 calories a cup.
Morning all - I've stayed the same (yet again) this week, which I suppose is less bad than putting back on.... I blame the two Leibkuchen I took from the tin during the week :-)

Wendilla, those of us on statins aren't allowed grapefruit juice, which is a shame, it used to be one of my favourites.
My tip would be the Lidl Sirius musli bars. The banana & chocolate are way down the list on cals and fats, and are lovely with a cup of tea or coffee.
Well done losers, especially Old Geezer!! Thank you Wendilla, for the advice regarding meds and grapefruit juice. I have just checked mine and I'm not allowed grapefruit juice either. Anyway, I have lost two pounds this week due to a miserable stomach upset :-(
Very well done OG you must have done something right this week . Boxtops staying the same usually shows a loss the following week if good and yes I did state about people on some medication are not allowed grapefruit juice which is a shame as it does work for me.
Well done Marijn but you did not wish a stomach upset to lose. Hope you are feeling better now.
Thanks both. I tend to have "heavy" weekends and try to make up for it during the week when I'm more in control. What I think I did right this week was get unwell Saturday, and almost uniquely came in under daily target on a Saturday ! Not too far above target Sunday either. Monday morning weigh in showed a pleasant side-effect.
We'll done to all the losers. Am I right that the naughty step is empty this week?
Evening all, i had to rush off to work after posting this morning; Thank you all for your suggestions for my sweet moments. I will go back to the grapefruit juice in the mornings as i used to have it and have drifted away but will buy some this week. Otherwise I think I'm going to replace the sweet stuff with a cup of tea/coffee or hot no fat milk as i really think I need to try going cold turkey for a bit. Any replacements are likely to have me hooked!

Well done losers and keep at it maintainers. Onwards and downwards.
Maydup I use only what we call here, mini milk which is 0.5% fat. Believe it or not it makes a wonderful cappuccino and I can also foam it for the topping.
Hi xstitcher. Yes I use 0.1 skimmed milk and it makes a soothing drink in the evening. Although it has 10g sugar? Hard to avoid the stuff isn't it?!
Oh my word maydup, I had no idea. I just checked my mini milk carton and it has 11.3 grams in one liter. Now I shall be checking out the other brands also...thanks for that info.
