I was to receive two birthday cards last Saturday - they were posted on the Friday (a bit late but nonetheless) still haven't received them.

I spoke to a Royal Mail delivery guy today who was picking up post from the post office and I just happened to mention it to him and he said - it doesn't surprise me one bit because they (RM) couldn't care less now, letters are getting thrown, strewn and hidden, even the bosses are doing it. Like I couldn't believe what he was saying this to me. So I said how long have you been working for them 30 years he replied.

He hasn't reported mail being thrown and hidden?

Shame on him.

I guess Mamy - he doesn't want to lose his job after 30 years.
Sorry, to be fair you didn't say he hadn't reported it - hope he has.
My Father was a Postman for all his working life from leaving the Army until he died, he defied all rules to get mail to where it should go.

well Mamy he was just a random delivery guy so I didn't know him of course. guess the guy is biding his time till he gets out.
That makes me sad, hope you get your cards.
That is concerning, JJ.
Doesn't seem to be much integrity today.
Perhaps it low morale with some people, if they're under pressure at work, for targets, e.t.c.
The normal excuse is "staff shortage" round here (for several years).
Whenever our regular postie is off (and he's been off quite a lot this year!) we are lucky to get two deliveries a week. Anything expected on Thurs/Fri arrives Mon or Tues following week...usually a big pile comprising several days mail. Managers won't get more staff because it costs them.
Mrs NJ and I applied for new passports a few weeks ago. We applied online, five minutes apart. You have to submit your old passport before they will provide a new one. Mine had to go to Bootle; Mrs NJ's to Durham (don't ask me why). They both got there OK and our new passports were provided and sent by courier (they arrived together). Mrs NJ's old passport was returned safely. I'm still waiting for mine. It's obviously been "lost in the post." No great problem - it's of no value but did have some nice stamps in it recording where we'd been in the last decade. But somebody's obviously had it away. It would have been a great deal more troublesome had it been "lost" on the way there as then I would have had to go down the "lost passport" route.
The truth is they have been running on low staffing numbers through the pandemic, and they are probably exhausted, and burned out, we sometimes go a week without deliveries and my local office tell me, three or more get pinged most weeks. Now they don't have to self isolate if vaccinated it's improving but 18 months of double rounds, or extra shifts is good for the wallet but not for your health.
