I don't know what they are, but i thought an indication of high cholesterol was white rings around the irises.
\\\\Are they a good indication of high cholesterol \\\\

You mean at the side of the eye?( Xanthelasma)?

Yes, not only are they suspicious of a high cholesterol, but an indication that the person is more liable to strokes, heart attacks and diabetes.

Unlikely to disappear when the cholesterol is lowered.....but theu might.
That's interesting, sqad. My stepdad has those. They were removed by a doctor, but didn't realise that was an indication.
The white thingey around the eye is arcus senilis:
see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcus_senilis

a bit stubby - but incredibly you can get it in one eye !

Xanthelasma - I thought once you got it you were stuck with it whether or not you had treatment of the cause, and whether the treatment was successful.

Bugger that, I've got one on my eye lid. I just had a mini health check and they said all was well.

Right, that's the diet starting today then :(

Should I go to see the Doc?
Oi! rocky......no big deal as the relationship between Xanthelasma and cardiovascular disease is much less sinister than in men.

If your cholesterol was normal at checkup...........then don't worry.
\\\Should I go to see the Doc?\\\

No.

Thanks sqad.

The test wasn't the fasting one, just a mini one done in one of those travelling NHS trucks, the bad cholesterol was slightly high but the good cholesterol counterbalanced it, so the nurse said.

If you've recently had a check and they are happy with the results, you really don't need to worry.

Thanks Pixie, I'm a bit conscious as I've got into a bit of a depressing rut lately and let myself go a bit.

Oh well, I'll look at it as a kick up the arse and cut back a bit and do some exercise.
Awww...

Well you look fab xx
