we are going on holiday soon to a holiday complex where we always stay as my inlaws have a place there. we know people on the complex. a couple who we know always ask us out to have drinks and meals but just like to spend time on our own when we go away. i always feel too that i have to go round and announce we have arrived. i hate it and it feels like im under lots of pressure to start off the holiday. i do know they are both on a diet as they are off to their son's wedding in the carribbean soon. the last time we were out we met up in a bar by chance, had a late night so the next day when we planned to meet up they called it off as they were tired that afternoon. we were relieved. ive hinted in the odd email that it cant always be possible to go out with everyone all the time as they live there so their lifestyle is different and so you cant party all the time. gosh, i have a headache just thinking about it right now. we also said last time we were meeting up with friends who were out at the same time in a resort nearby. im thinking of all excuses, even thinking that i thought they had already left for the wedding in case we bump into them. im inclined to let them know, ask them out for a meal, night out knowing they dont want to because of their diet. its so stressful, any suggestions appreciated.

Terrible being British isn't it. I think you'll just have to be straight with them.
Oh dear!

Made "friends" in the past and now can´t get rid of them.

No easy way, if you really want to give them the push, then you must decline any meeting up with them whatever excuse that you can think of, until they take the hint.

Common problem......don´t chicken out.
Sorry, but to me you sound like a couple of wet blankets.

Why go there? the world is a big place?

jem
Tell them you might be able to meet up once, but that it is your holiday so you will be busy doing other things.
How about 'Hope you understand, we want some quiet time together, but we will get together before we leave'
just be honest and say you don't want to as you want to relax. you can be firm and polite but people soon get the message.
i used to make up all sorts of excuses if i didn't want to do something but the older i've got the more honest i've become, life's too short to spend time doing things you don't want to with people you're not bothered about.
and if they get offended, so what?? they're not your best friends or people you see everyday.

we have a share in the place jemisa and we love the place apart from this problem.
ethandron is spot on.( as usual ;-))

they both have a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone, i really cant tell them straight nor be vague by leading them on saying we will catch up with them. the woman also cleans for my inlaws and us after departing!
it's all very well massaging my ego now squad, but i've never been invited out for a fish supper with bread and butter AND a cup of tea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am afraid it is be straight, or grin and bear it. Honesty is always best in my book.

my fate is sealed it seems! im even more panicky now. think i will just let them know vaguely we are going and assume they have gone away. i cannot believe the situations i get myself in because i dont want to hurt others feelings, but instead hurt my own.
mamy...LOL.....done.

Fish and chip supper for 3 , bread and butter and a cup of tea, then you show ron your nurses knickers and off I slip with eth.
