Hi Jan. Read your post about the first chemo treatment last Friday. I hope you managed to sort out some of your questions with the nurses and doctors. Hope hubby is getting on o.k.

I am so glad you posted this ttfn, I`ve been wanting to ask even though its early days and jan knows we are here if needed. Didn`t want to tag it on to another random post either.

Lotsa love Jan and Mr J ♥

Hi mamya. Well I would sooner ask than not - as we were saying last week, it is better to have the opportunity to talk about it and, hopefully, find comfort in the fact that others are thinking of you.. How are you mamya - has the anniversary date happened for you yet this week?
20 months since Bill died and it will be his birthday on saturday (can still only say willnot would)♥ I have my ups and downs but his situation wasn`t the same as jans hubby so don`t want to ba a downer. You been there ttfn?
Question Author
'fraid so mamya. Thank heavens for all the good memories though - funny how they come up and grab hold of you sometimes.
Sorry ttfn I have reread the other post and see that you have been there, how are you now?
Yes someone asked about a favourite love song earlier and I was transported back to him strumming the guitar and singing it to me.

I imagine the same as you mamya - one day at a time. Life goes on for those left behind. I find wallowing in self pity is not an option, but quite reflection, and often, helps. I always think it is so sad when others stop mentioning our loved ones - out of sight and out of mind for some.
I was scared for my youngest daughter, thought she would snap into tiny pieces but with some gentle persuasion, she now talks all the time. The odd thing is my eldest grandson is on the autistic spectrum and he acts as if grandads still around and the things he says are so endearing it makes you smile, eg "Next time we go on holiday, shall we go to heaven to bring grandad back"LOL Its tjose things that realise you can`t pack it in, which I considered early on as rather annoyingly to some we were joined at the hip!!
Ooops sorry again jan, have taken over thethread with my verbals, I know you will forgive me, and remember we are not comparing like with like.

Your grandson sounds a poppet mamya! Well I hope Jan is getting some well earned rest at the moment - I shall be off to bed myself soon. I cannot keep up with all the excitement on the avatars today! Sleep well mamya, ttfn
Night night ttfn ♥
Hi ttfn and mamya if you are still around. Just wanted to let you know the chemo went ok, although wasn't expecting it to take 9 hours! We were both very tired over the weekend. Hubby had his final scan yesterday and then saw the surgeon for the results and so far all the news is positive. They confirmed the cancer has not spread anywhere else and so far he has not had any bad reactions to the chemo except feeling a bit tired. Hopefully the chemo will shrink the tumour enough that he will be able to eat a bit more and they did say this can happen very quickly. They are going to do 2 sessions of chemotherapy, both of 3 weeks, then he will have a rest to recover of 4 to 6 weeks before the operation. so we're looking at the middle of July probably. Also spoke to the Macmillan nurse who was very helpful and she is sending me forms to claim a grant for travelling expenses.

I also saw my friends at the weekend and we all had a chat about it so everything is now in the open and they were all really kind so I am feeling better about that. We are both now feeling a lot more positive.

Thank you for thinking of me and hubby, it is much appreciated. xxxx

Morning Jan - thanks for the update. Fingers crossed for you both. I am especially pleased to read you have had a good chat with your friends - just what you needed. 9 hours is a very long day Jan - they don't get any shorter as I recall. Still the scan news looks good and you both have a more positive outlook. Brilliant news, well done
Hi Jan... how is he managing to eat at the moment?
He's ok NM. He does struggle with bread and anything dry so I am trying to cook things like shepherds pie, spag bol, which are easy for him to swallow. He has been given liquid supplements as well now for when he is really having problems but has only had to use them a few times.
Homemade soups would be beneficial, Jan. Things like tomato and red pepper, roasted in the oven. Fry some onion and garlic and add the red veggies, some water and seasoning and blitz in the blender. Push through the sieve to removed any seeds, etc. Et voila... you have a very nutritious, easily digestible meal. Tomatoes and onions are both rich in anti-cancer properties too. x x
