My husband's leg has been tight on the calf for a while now (couple of months). He is having some pains also and recently he seems to be having difficultly in his knee as well. He spoke to a GP who said it could be a torn muscle. It is not red or particularly swollen, just very tight/hard to touch. Any ideas other than DVT? Thanks

Loads of ideas, get a second opinion at your surgery if you're not happy with your GPs diagnosis being the first one! Do not wait for an answer from an ABer, kin hell's teeth this is for day to day stuff not possible life threatening stuff! Tell hubby to get back to the saw bones ASAP and start making a fuss!
What she ^ said.
I've got a dvt and had the same symptoms, get him to his gp or go to A&E asap, it migh not be that but better to be safe than sorry.
This is a very serious condition and if ignored the clot could dislodge and get into his lungs.
Sqad, where are you !
Give this lady some advice please.
Miss...first things first...it s NOT a DVT
I tend to agree with your Drs diagnosis, but more details are necessary.
!) How old is he?
2)What is his job?
3) Relevent past medical history
4) Did it come on suddenly or gradually?

It may be worth taking Ibuprofen for the pain and rubbing Voltarol or Ibuprofen Gel into the calf.
Sqad, how do you know it's not a dvt as I've just said I had the same symptoms and I've got one.
morning Gelda.

DVT,,,sudden onset and wouldn't last for "couple of months" as stated above. Symptoms of DVT last for about 2 weeks.

DVT the whole of the leg below the knee is swollen and in this case there is no swelling

Lousy weather her in the Med Gelda.
Thought Tight Calf should be in A&N Sorry ! {:)

morning Sqad
stompe....morning you old devil.

Gelda...I didn't see YOUR reply, before I sent mine....sorry.
Yes you're right about the swelling Sqad, although I did have it for about a month before they sent me for an ultrasound. I probably would have put up with it for longer not knowing what it was but the oncologist noticed it and sent me to have a scan straight away , I'm glad he did :-}
The thing I hate about it is, I have to inject myself in the abdomane sp? twice a day :{
Hello again Stompe, don't usually see you on B&S ! xx
I have had two torn muscles in my calfs and it is very painful.

Try a physiotherapist - I found that it worked beautifully and painlessly. He also gave my exercises to do.
calfs/calves - I am just out of bed.

Thanks for all taking your time to answer. Well he went to the docs today, doc doesn't know what it is. He's had a blood test today just to rule out a blood clot. Doc said if that comes back ok, he'll have to have a scan on his leg. Think it could be muscular. Wolf, do the muscles just heal over time then?
