Someone mentioned this and I wanted to know if it's true or were they just being sarcastic....Ladies, while pushing and try to deliver a baby, have you ever heard of anyone "pooping" also?

My auntie's a midwife and it's quite common. I used to think she was winding me up but when I sat thought about it (you have to though, don't you?) it seems quite an easy thing to do!
It's common for women who have received an epidural, which removes muscle control in tandem with pain relief, and I understand it is common in normal childbirth - the bowel and uterus muscles are not sufficiently sophisticated to differentiate to which area the 'push' impulse is being directed, so they both perform at the same time.
It is true!!! Not done it meself but know someone who did - she didnt give a monkeys about the embarrassment factor cos as she said, when you have your nether regions on show to all and sundry you leave your inhibitions on the doorstep rofl.
When my auntie was telling me (thi is why I wasn't sure if it was a wind up) she said that one of the women thought she'd given birth or was on her way and it only a big poo! lmao
Yes it is very true, my mum said it happened with her when she had me but the midwife just quickly shifted it and continued to deliver me!
It happened to a lady I worked with - she delivered and then 'delivered' in front of a room full of students, one of whom piped up and asked if she was Mrs ----, the student knew her husband!
Some time ago someone posted a question: "The truth about giving birth" - http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Search/Question46074-3.asp?Pa ge=2&SearchText=giving%20birth and a number of the replies appended dealt with this particular aspect of giving birth.
I have two little girls and I am currently seven months pregnant with my third child. Funnily enough , this was a question which I had raised with my hubby just a few days ago (due to the fact that I had terrible constipation and had commented that I felt as if I was giving birth ..... we won't go into that though ! )and I had also heard that some women do actually have a little accident whilst giving birth. I remembered being asked on both occasions when I gave birth to my daughters , when I had last had a bowel movement. Luckily this has never happened to me as I have always been empty before giving birth but I dare say it is very common. After all , when the baby is travelling down the birth canal they press heavily against the back passage and that excessive pressure is bound to cause unpleasant side effects ! As MrsCheeks quite rightly said though , when you are giving birth you do leave your dignity at the door and pick it up again on the way out so I suppose the best thing to do would just be to laugh it off if it happened.
the midwife sees this as an encouraging sign that labour is progressing well and your only slightly aware that it has happened anyway as ur in so much pain.
