Elective C-Section

I was told at 32-week scan that baby was lying in "reverse transverse" position and if this remained the case at 36 weeks I would be booked in for a C-section at around the 39-week mark.

Having been examined twice since that scan, following my fall on Monday and by the Midwife yesterday, it seems the baby has turned and the head is down (for now).

The question I am asking is, can I still justifiably ask for an elective C-section and for them to perform the complete removal of my reproductive organs at the same time? I will need TAH / BSO at some soonish point in time anyway, due to strong family history of malignancy, big fibroids and monthly cycles that significantly affect my quality of life. Additionally, I have suffered a lot during this pregnancy and I never want to risk another pregnancy.

I just wondered if they still do the removal at the same time as delivering a baby by C-section?

Yes , you may ask, but I don't think that you will get the reply that you want.
Complication rates for C-Section are DOUBLED if combined with TAH.
I can't remember the exact figures, but the complication rate for C-section are about 10% but for the combined procedure, around 25%....( I am not sure about the exact figures)

If I have to return for surgery at a later date, that will involve anaesthetic, which I'm not a big fan of. I'll discuss with the Consultant after my next scan. Thanks, Sqad.

NoM - my nephew's wife got an c-section in May and because she has the family she wants now - they obliged and she got "all" removed.

I've had normal births and a c-section on the things - I would never advise anyone to have an elective one. It can be hard work looking after a new baby without recovering from a c-section. Take the time to bond with your baby and deal with any future surgeries when they arise.

C sections leave the stomach muscles stretched, so the paunch becomes a life long battle ime. Not recommended for your first birth if you dont want a permanent beer belly appearance.

Tambourine that is not always the case. I have had 2 CS's and each time I was back to pre-preg size, shape and weight within 4 weeks without really trying. However, the second time my scar was a pain to heal, (In more ways than one)!

There's a massive history of uterine cancers in my mother's family and she suffers from menorrhagia which is utterly debilitating and they flatly refuse to deal with that surgically, they gave her a Mirena coil which made her feel awful and when she demanded they remove it got extremely shirty with her and are STILL refusing to surgically deal with her issues, so I hope you have more luck than she has.

NoM.....I have had two c-sections....one ectopic and a hysterectomy and my flat tummy came back within weeks even after the cocked-up hysterectomy.....

The only advice I'd give is not to have a bikini line cut...go for the up and down. More noticable but gives a flatter tummy quickly and easily.....x

I know of friend my mother's had 8 c=sections - but daughers never broached her about and she never talked about it. But they were upset (family) - why didn't the dad leave along - perhaps the men thought because she was catholic she had to give their conjugal rights. Ah right Pretty sounds pretty sound like rape to. What womam wamted 16 children and and having no money dont start me !!!

Y were on death bed and they execution of - no matter you left. But do think knowing of you, your christian, kind, would help another prson if yu can - and goes for Catholic for me.

JJ, ectopics never survive. There's no way to take a pregnancy out of a badly damaged tube and implant it in the uterus.

I was 6+5 at surgery and my ectopic was att the distal end (adjacent to the ovary) where my tube had stretched to 2cm wide. I didn't rupture but I had been bleeing internally for over a week. I was very lucky that I flew home and got to hospital when I did.
