I feel really sorry for my daughter when some one says that to her. There she is standing there looking young and beautiful next to this old hag and some one tells here she looks like me! Nice!!!!
Well my dada looked like Johnny Depp and my mum looked like Audrey Hepburn so I dont mind really. I guess, if your parents were Jeff Brazier and Jade Goody you might be offended.
pirate, i think johnny depp is dog rough so its obviously each to their own
pirate, sorry i meant octavius,
well its nice to know I wasnt adopted :-)
the reality is that we do turn into our parents!!

I can definatly see how I look like my mom now
me too, I sometimes sit there doing things and think oh my god I'm doing things like her too. My mum used to sit with her face in a mug breathing into it, and I do that to and have to snap myself out of it

its when we say stuff that make us sound like our parents that make me laugh ... turn the lights of tidy your room etc
I used to get annoyed about it when I was a teenager, although I used to get annoyed about most things then! I can't think of anyone ever saying I look like my mum but they do my dad and I don't mind at all, in fact it makes me proud, I would also be proud to look like my mother as I think she's wonderful, although sometimes it does freak me out when I catch my reflection somewhere and think, 'oh my god, I look freakishly like my dad just then.'
Gina32, then it is fortunate that I look like my mother.
my mum is beautiful and looks so good for her age so i dont mind at all!!!!!!
I think I do look like my Mum so it doesn't bother me when people tell me so, but if my boyfriend said it wouldn't be too happy, he should think I look like me, no-one else lol! also, not really relevant but made me laugh- sleepy1- did it make a difference because you were in tesco, seemed very random!
my mum and dad were blessed with good looks hence the reason i believe im adopted :)
I don't look like my parents at all. At least i didn't used to. But now i'm getting older I'm starting to see little resemblances that weren't there before. I've always been quite close in appearance to my Maternal Grandma, so at least i know I'm not adopted.
I would be very proud to be told i look like either of my parents. I love family comparisons. Nothing to be annoyed or embarrassed about.
When I went home a few years ago, I saw an old lady who's been around the village for years and known us since we were all born. She stopped and said "your grandmother will never be dead while you're alive." just like that - no hello or anything!! I know it sounds a bit odd, but I thought it was very moving. I always remember Nanny telling me that when she was young she was known as the girl who was always smiling, so if that's how I've turned out too, I'm definitely OK with it!

Also, I find myself saying EXACTLY the same things to my boys that mum said to all of us as children, but not consciously. These words just pop out of my mouth as if from nowhere, and I think 'good god, who said that?' lol!
If anyone said I resembled my parents I would be surprised. I loved them both dearly but they looked like Hobbits (although mum was less hairy than dad), whereas I take after my maternal grandad who was a tall, blond Norweigan. I'm one of ten children, eight of whom are Bilbo lookalikes while me, one brother and all my cousins look like the viking side of the family.
Consider yourselves lucky... not only am I told I look nothing like my parents, apparently I don't look like my sisters either!
hello sleepy1, me and my older brother are very alike although he looks more like my mum whereas I take after my dad, but we both have the chubby cheeks that everyone on my dad's side of the family have :)
It's quite scary actually. When my parents said or did things when I was a teenager I always swore I would never be like that but now I catch myself sounding just like my mum. I even look like her now, although a fair bit taller. But there's not a lot I can do about it (without radical surgery!)
