The person below has said that she feels her child has Tourettes. Many people self diagnose themselves thesedays and I feel it is an excuse or coverup for inexcusable behavior. If a child is misbehaving then that child must have ADHD, if a child is swearing then that child must have tourettes. Why can't parents take responsibility for their children, take them in hand and sort them out. Tourettes indeed!

Tourettes syndrome is a disorder characterized by abnormal twitching {Tics} and the tendency to shout out inappropriate words {usually the 4-letter variety}.

The condition is believed to be ''HEREDITY'' although there have been many cases where there was ''NO'' family history of the disorder.

Its possible link to a chemical in the brain called ''DOPAMINE''. The same substance believed to be behind Parkinsons disease.

The {tics} are often aggravated by ''STRESS''.

I liked to hear other peoples opinions on what I think but not to be called pathetic and trouble making for simply expressing an opinion.
No- perhaps those words were errr unfortunate to use, lol. However, I'd like to think that seeing as you've shown an interest in this medical condition, well enough to have an opinion anyway, that you'd at least read up on it???
alfayeds, can I ask then, do you think that mental illness exsists or not?
Question Author
I have read up on it lots and I know the facts that are for it. But I still think that it is due to behavior and parenting. Again, just my opinion.
Question Author
No - I don't. I think that life is what you make it and that it really is a case of mind over matter when it comes to mental illnesses. These people chose to be the way they are, everyone is capable of changing themselves.
All types of mental illness? Including Psychosis, for example? Do you mean to say you think that mental illness results from bad parenting, or people make it up because of bad parenting, i.e. attention seeking?
In which case (as someone who has witnessed schizophrenia first hand) no one who has a modicum of intelligence or empathy will take your question and arguments seriously and I feel sure you will be dismissed as a wind up merchant. Pity, because I feel if you chose an argument that you actually believed in, rather than one designed to make the most waves, you could be quite an interesting character. As it is, I pity you.
Question Author
I think that in older people it can be stopped. I believe that things happen that may make people feel like they are losing control, but it's all a case of regaining power and everyone has it within them to do that.
Judging by this question, and some of your answers in other threads, you appear to be closed minded.

The way your questions reads, you are assuming that every parent who has a child that misbehaves writes it off as some medical term such as Tourettes or ADHD.

Why not ever consider the possibilityt that there ARE some people with Tourettes, there ARE some children with ADHD and there ARE just some children who will misbahave because they are over indulged by their parents? To say there is no such thing as Tourettes is closed minded just as much as the parents of misbahving children due to overindulgence labelling it with Tourettes/ADHD.

Most of sane society will know that the child screaming at the supermarket checkout queue because he/she is not allowed that sweetie that is sitting so tantalisingly within their reach is attention seeking, however a young child does not know that displaying symptoms associated with Tourettes's, such as tics, is considered 'attention seeking', so therefore cannot possibly use this to get what they want.

The most interesting part of this question is that your user name is new to this site, however, I don't believe that you are new to us at all, isn't this just another form of attention seeking behaviour? Gosh....do you have ADHD or were you just overindulged as a child?

Of course you are entitled to your opinion, the beauty of democarcy and all that, however, you are not entitled to sit on your attention seeking arse and judge the other members for having a different opinion.
Question Author
I have no experience of that particular illness, so I can only go on what I myself have experienced first hand.
Question Author
I believe we are all judging each other here. You are judging me right now Xiomara.
My relative was 24 and had just had their first child when they had their first episode. They were in and out of hospital for 12 years to the point where they said that if this new drug didn't work they would kill themselves as they couldn't stand the thought of being ruled by this illness. Thankfully the drug did. I believe that if wanting the illness to stop was enough, they would only have been ill the once. I'm suprised you think that ill people 'want to be like that'.
Oh, and by the way, isn't judging someone just an opinion - you've said that everyone is entitled to that so what's wrong with it?
I'm judging you for trying to tell us that we are all wrong and you are correct....in your opinion, of course.

On the other hand, I am trying to ask you to open your mind to the possibility to the fact that here ARE children out there who do actually need help and others that, as you say, are just plain attention seeking and overindulged.
but you seem to have directed your question at the one below, how is her child twitching etc, her being a bad parent. You have said They dont need to call you pathetic but you have called that mother a bad one. It didnt need to be done, Yes if you have an opinion by all means but dont use her question.
this troll is the russian or part of her pathetic gang, see above question.
Question Author
No - It was not directed at the user, it was that question that provoked my train of thought
Then she didnt need to be mentioned in post. Get lost Troll
Question Author
